I just pulled the trigger on a used mustang 3 - 1 x 12" 100 watt amp.
Replacing a 15watt line 6 amp.

Was looking at a new mustang 2 and GC had a used 3 for $150.

What I'm trying to find out is a version history of the mustang 3s
I see mustang III v2. Being sold now.
Was there a mustang III v1. ??? If so what was the difference.
it looks like there is a firmware upgrade.

Was rushed last night when I paid for it and plan to go back today to check it out closer.
Towns policy is 30 days before they can release used equipment so I have to wait anyway.

Anything I should be. On earned about when checking a used amp out?

Thanks for any input

There is s Mustang V.1, and the major differences is with the V.2 you get 5 new amp models, XLR output, and an upgraded power supply that many believe has fixed a digital aliasing issue known as "fizz". (There are enough pages about fizz on this site for you to get lost in, but basically it is a minor issue for most, that they either don't notice or don't care about it. But for some it was a deal breaker.)

You should be able to tell if you have a v.2 if you have XLR jacks on the back. Also watch the display screen as you power up the amp, it should tell you there.

I have an MIII v.1 and I love it it. If something ever happened to it I'd probably replace it with a v.2, but I'm happy with it for now.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had read about the fizz and all the comparisons between mfgs at this price range. Then realized I'm not as fussy as many are. This will sound much better than my little line 6 15 watt...

What would xlr output be used for?

Thanks again

Recording.
Traditional amp recording is putting a mic in front of the speaker, and the mic will have an XLR connection to the mixer or recording interface.
This allows you to use pretty much the same setup, without a mic. But you don't get the color and characteristics of the speaker, so it won't sound the same as what you hear.

confirmed no XLR connections on the back so its the v1.

seems like a good deal for me. for less than the price of a new mustang II v2
I get Mustang III v1

hopefully the power supply / fizz is not an issue. would have to be pretty drastic..

I cant find anything about v1 vs v2 other than your response?

now have to wait till june 1st to pick it up...

I've got two V1 Mustangs (III and a IV) my band mate has a V2 III.

I really don't miss the additional amp models, and the M-IV is a freaking beast..

my VI III doesn't fizz or if it does, I am not hearing it...

Got the chance last night to actually try out the used mustang III v1 at GC.
If I found any problems I would have gone for a new one but everything seemed fine.
I first reset to defaults. Spent about an hour playing with it. I couldn't detect any "fizz" ???
Headphone jack, 2button pedal, speaker all good.

I was kinda hoping I'd find something wrong with it so I could walk out with a new one last night. Now I have to wait for it to clear 30 day wait on selling used gear.
But, $150 for the mustang III v1 is sweeeet. Won't miss the extra models and effects at all.

Looking at a used crybaby for $40 to add to the mix.

Now must wait until 6/1

I've got the m3 v1 and love it. I don't know what you'll be using it for but I gig with mine. The only thing I had to do other than tweeking it to my like was to get the 4 button switch for live gigs. At home I just work it all off the amp controls. Enjoy.
