I've looked for any questions/answers regarding this but haven't found any. What is the intended use of this pre-set on the Mustang III? Anyone know?

If I understand correctly, the preset was made to (kind of) give you the option of having no amp model selected. It's as close as you can get to the sound of the Mustang amp minus the modeling - so just a plain solid state amp, lots of clean volume.

The uses I've seen for the preset are for plugging in an acoustic guitar, a bass (technically not supported by Fender) or using an external effects/modeling device.

You can build a series of patches using different distortions, modulation, delays, and reverbs to use with a tube amp. Your MIII becomes a pedal board for a tube amp. Just turn the master volume on the MIII all the way down or use it as a monitor and patch the effects send directly to your tube amp, such as a Twin Reverb or Deluxe reverb. I've tried it and it works great. Helps to have both 4-button and 2-button switches!

So you can play bass with the M'Floor.

The tone stack works marvelously with Active basses.
