Hey all,

I have recently purchased a Squire Classic Vibe '50s strat. For the amp, I am thinking of buying a Mustang II. This is as high as I can go budget wise, because things in Sydney are expensive. Unreasonably expensive. :?

Anyway, I have Beyerdynamic DT 770 M headphones, and I have the following questions:
1) Will my headphone's standard 3.5 mm jack fit into the amp comfortably?
2) Will I have ANY issues with playing my guitar with the headphones plugged in? Because I have read that sometimes there is a fuzz or the speakers stop working after using the headphones. I will be playing with them plugged in a LOT because of the kids at home, and students.

It's an excellent pair of cans, definitely not cheap, so I don't think the can/jack will break.

Help please!

Yes, the amps have a standard 3.5mm stereo socket.

I can't recall any issues of fuzziness with headphones. If anything, I think the sound can be too clear through headphones, compared to the (beneficial) colouration of the real speaker - even with the 'cab emulation' that is applied to the headphones signal.

I can think of one incidence, recently, of someone having a problem with the speaker not working after using headphones. I don't think it's widespread. (The headphones socket has a switch within it that mutes the speaker while using 'phones - my guess is that switch broke to stop the speaker working). If this is a particular concern, you should test the headphones socket on the actual amp you're going to buy, prior to purchase.

The "V2" versions of the amp have a different external appearance, and support a few more amp models and effects (for completeness, the Mustang 3, 4 and 5 have a couple more differences that aren't relevant for the Mustang 2 you're looking at). If you buy a new amp now, it will almost certainly be a "V2" but if money is a concern, you may be able to pick up an old-stock V1 the shop wants to get rid of at a good price! Unless you particularly need any of the new amp models or effects (plenty of other topics discuss these and their value over the V1 amps' models and effects, so search those for more info), to save money a V1 will be just as good.

Make sure you get a version 2 amp and apply the new 2.2 firmware upgrade. Before that, the reverb is mono and now it's stereo, a MUCH nicer headphone experience!
