Just noticing that there seems to be more posts on the smaller Mustang amp's and floor model than the Mustang twin and head only. I jumped on the MIV because of the great price I got it for.

I suspect this simply represents that many more of the smaller amps have been sold than the Mustang 4/5, thus there are more users of those to post on this forum.

I have an M-4 and love it, even though it's completely overkill for what I need.

My MIV V2 is hand sdown the best amp I have ever owned. Granted I have not owned many amps over the decades but people who have listened to me play for decades confirm the tone is the best. While I hope to get a Champ or Princeton clone kit this year, the Mustang will be my main amp for a long time.

As for the comments most posting are for the smaller Mustangs, I agree with Scott-UK that it is more of a price point issue and sales volume than anything else.

Or it could be that the folks who own the bigguns are to busy gigging and playing to hang around here posting.

The smaller models tend to appeal more to newer less experienced players than the big ones, and Lord knows, it's easy to get lost in the options if you aren't familiar with modelling amps.

All that said, I'm hardly an experienced ( or good...) player. But I got the III, even though it's more amp than I need, for the features. I wanted an AMP- with real controls that could function without needing a computer, with an fx loop for my pedals. Plus, it sounds f'in great at low levels! Love the tuner function. I actually get annoyed when I have to plug in a tuner with my other amps!

Mine's a v1, too- and I'd buy it again. No noise issues, just great sound.

You are right, rookies may ask more questions. I enjoy hanging out here because you can learn a lot even by lurking.

Gigs? Maybe some this summer.

BINGO!! I suspect I'm pretty representative of the type of person that owns one of the larger style Mustangs. I'm a very long way from my first amp, and this isn't even my first modeling amp. I bought it with a specific purpose in mind which was to replace the Line 6 Spider IV I was using in my band. The Spider was a good amp for it's time, but it was clear to me that Fender had really done something special with the modeling on the Mustang. So this was not just a casual purchase for playing around with. This was meant to be a working amp.

It seems to me a fairly large portion of the persons posting here are either relatively new to playing or may have played for some time but are finally being drawn to the idea of a modeling amp. There are a fair number that appear to be drawn to the Mustang for use in home recording. The Mustang III and below would be quite suitable for these purposes. But a real working amp needs just a bit more beef to ensure it can handle whatever types of gigs I might encounter, and I suspect a lot of others that made that choice have similar needs to mine.

In my case I don't even have my Mustang IV here at the house. It's stored with the rest of our band equipment at our rehearsal space. I do have a Mustang Mini here at the house for personal practice use.

I picked up the MIV 2 for playing with my group of buds and have loved it from day one. Sounds great at all volumes and the ones it produces are amazing. Recently picked up a signature Gilmour and putting it though the amp was an experience let me tell you. Great amp

I guess my MKIII V2 is in the middle, but I love the sound and the weight!

It's funny (at least to me it is)... the MIII keeps getting placed into the "Practice" and "Home Recording" category out here.
The MII and the MI... yes... those are just that.
My MustangIII... well... have been gigging mine. It's great... plenty of power... sounds is fantastic... cuts through in stage application nicely... models are outstanding.... by no means a "Home Recording" or "Practice" amp. It's a full fledged Gigging amp.
Fact:
One of the bands have played with... other guitar player had a 100 Watt Sunn head powering a 2X12" cab... yeah... nice... fat... and friggin' LOUD.
My MIII was holding it's own right there next to his....
But that's right... it's just a "Practice" amp...

Rock on

For a while the III and IV were the same price here (well within 10 or 20 bucks). I had to resist my natural urge to get IV. It was just too big for my house and carrying upstairs when I need to. The III is perfectly sized for me.

^ That, too. My III takes up plenty of real estate in my room, not sure I'd WANT to go any bigger! I traded in my last bass amp- a Peavey MAX112- because it was too friggin big and awkward to move around in my place. Got a lil Markbass Micromark 1x8 instead. Sounds better, and it gets just as obnoxiously loud.

I have a Mustang V 2, use it with a 2x12 cab with celestion vintage 30 and another custom built 2x12 cab with celestion g12, both sound great with it!

I rock a MV V.2 with a MV V.1 4x12 cab at home... was looking at the MIV V.2 and found out I could get the V setup for exactly $15 more. It is extreme overkill but so much fun to play through a half-stack! I have a designated music room so I don't need to wag it around the house... have a G-DEC 3 Thirty for that!

Based on my experience with the M3v2, if I needed the additional sound pressure on stage, in one unit, an M4 would now be a no-brainer for me. I'm really happy with my Mustang amp. As far as 1-12 combos go, the M3v2 can probably run the same race that almost any under-$2K 1-12 combo can.
