In all seriousness, EC could make a mustang III, IV, or V sound great. Would meet his needs just find whether he'd actually try one or not.

Basic 65 deluxe model...touch of reverb....reasonable EQ.....the right guitar, EC's playing....the amp is not holding anything back as far as tone.

Quite true.

I would pay to see some artists like Eric take a Mustang for a test drive, along with someone who really knows what they're doing to help with editing presets. Especially if they did it with a backing band at gig volume.

I'd love to see that as well

There is a video of Elliot Easton demoing the Line 6 which is kinda cool. Its just a quicky demo of how he uses it to get the classic tones live but its pretty cool to see a pro embracing the new technology and not poo pooing it. Definately would be a treat to see a similar demo of the Mustangs.

I have said the same thing, but I prefer John Mayer, simply because he's a far superior player than EC. EC and Hendrix, of course, get credit for innovation in the 1960s, but nerdy guitaraholic John Mayer has surpassed them in pure chops. And his insane tone.

If you don't believe me, watch videos of EC on stage with Mayer; it's enough to make one feel a little bit embarrassed for EC and all his flicking around the 15th fret.

I guarantee you that John Mayer would make a Mustang III, IV, or V sound brilliant and, in fact, with the same guitars he uses, exactly like the tone he gets that you actually hear on his records and live. At least indistinguishable difference, especially for recording purposes.

Every time I get GAS, I remind myself that my gear is better than my playing and what I need to do is get back to practicing with the gear I already have.

Mayer would be a great demo too. He does seem to have a bigger palette of tones than Eric. Jimmy Page would be another contender for me, or perhaps David Gilmour.

Hi,
what video for example?
i found "Crossroads" (ABC News) but i'm not hearing anything so special...
In this case i prefer the (woman) tone of Eric.
if I have to listen among yonger guitarrists , I like Eric Johnson.

Yeah..I gotta say I'm with you on this one. Not to take anything away from Mayer. I have to admit I liked Mayer's tone a bit better than the fuzzy tone EC was using, but a LOT of notes doesn't always make for the best solo.

EC is the absolute master of using silence and gaps to draw you in then do some riff you've never heard anyone do before that's so melodic with grace notes, double-stop harmonies, and non-traditional passing notes that aren't the typical fare you hear in the standard pentatonic. If you want to know what I'm referring to watch the last part of EC's solo in that video starting at about 2:44 through 2:56. It even kind of looks like John Mayer is in awe of the riff EC has come up with there. And as always Slowhand just makes it look like it's all sooo easy.

Bryant Park show...

i was there LOL

they sometimes have some cool acts there. This was one of them. Nothing like walking through the park in the morning on your way to work and catching some good live music for free.

I think the two of you could pull it off wonderfully.

I nominate the two of you!
