On certain presets for my amp there is a very prominent whirring noise coming from the amp when not playing any notes on my guitar. It sounds as if wind is coming out of the amp. Its very annoying and I don't know what is causing it. Anyone experience this or something similar? It's really bothersome especially when I'm jamming with friends.

since it's only on certain presets, I would have to guess it's the settings for the preset?

Try turning off any effects, one by one until it goes away. Also, maybe lower the gain. When all else fails, the Mustang has a built-in noise gate....

It's the same with my III. Some of the presets are horrible. The other night I was experimenting with the "clean" presets and noticed it was worse on some of the amp models than others and it's worse if you turn the treble up. Then it's even worse if you stack effects on top. I've just worked around it by choosing amps/cabs that are least affected because I don't like the Noise Gate. There are also some really good presets that you can download that sound much better.

I've never had a clear answer to if it's modelling of the noise made by the real amp or a flaw in the modelling. Noise Gate is a partial solution... you'll still hear the noises overlaid on the notes, just the space between notes will be quiet.

Hi Guys,

As shown in the linked video, Presets with certain configurations such as compressors, distortion effects, high gain amp models and some modulation effects can have a substantial affect on noise levels. Additionally, this behavior is part of the modeling and is typically present in the analog amps. Please let us know if we can assist from from our end.

Best Regards,
