guess we all nailed it this time. It did sound really good though, hard to tell other than the bass response from the Mustang.

Thanks captainc,

With all of these blind tests I just pick which amp sounds better as the Mustang and I win every time now. Vegas calling?

It is subjective though at best because even a small detail like how long the tubes have warmed up can make a huge difference.

I have done my own tests, although I wasn't blind, between my Fender Deluxe Reissues and the Mustangs and it is really close but like I have said before at lower volume with higher gain crunch I prefer the Mustangs and then the list of features on the Mustangs just keeps growing and going.

What is the street price difference between the two?

I know the Mustang III beat the Eric Clapton Tremolux which was four times the street price of the Mustang!

I wonder if Fender and the other amp companies will stop refining their modeling technology if the modeling amps start cutting into high-end tube amp sales?

This is the film versus digital argument all over again. Ioan Allen of Dolby Labs began a lecture on film and movie theater design in 1997 by stating "We are in for some heart wrenching changes." Film is now relegated to hardcore hobbyists (I am one of them) with many successful artists (those truly supporting themselves without a wealthy spouse or trust fund to fall back on) having moved to digital the past five years. Good luck to any movie theater that hopes to survive on rolling stock as opposed to installed a DLP projector.

Digital in amps is here and will get better and better. I personally still want to get my hands on a tube amp just for fun the same way I shoot 4x5 film, but will rely on my two Mustangs for day to day playing.

Agreed Archtop.

I used to work in various recording studios in the late 90s and 2000's and i began to take notice that things were getting more affordable so folks could have home setups so that was a sure sign that the studio market was going to shrink. At that time i figured the film industry was the next safest thing so went into audio editing for film. Wasn't soon before that caught up so went the way of tech support for audio and video/film as that line of work always survives things like when those silly writers decide to strike and put a bunch of people out of work. Creative staff are the first to go. Nowadays, anyone who can afford a decent computer and camera can get final cut pro or Premiere and make a film. But... there are just certain things you can't do at home. You still need to go to a facility to satisfy deliverables like say an HDCam SR master, or perhaps a high end color correction, but for the most part a lot of the legwork can be done on the cheap.
