Just a word of caution and I would hope that Fender releases an official announcement regarding this issue.

I have been diagnosed with what my doctor now calls Stangitus. I cannot stop playing my guitars through my Mustangs for any real length of time. My wife barely recognizes me now because I hardly ever even stop to eat. Please be careful! Be very very careful! You have been warned!

lol...yeah, I've been playing for about a year and half and felt like I was hitting a plateau. My new Mustang III v2 has completely re-energized me. Completely love it.

Yep - definite problem. Instead of practising scales or trying to put together a whole new tune, I just turn the dial, get another tone and spend an hour exploring that. Repeat as needed.

it gets worse..

if you do have a mustang (or in my case 2 of them).. then pickup a new American Standard Strat...

you're gone... for an undetermined length of time..

Work is lucky they are seeing me at this point.

I haven't seen daylight in months. When I'm not playing with my Mustang III, I mostly rock and mumble to myself.

lol in all seriousness I have been playing so much since I got my MIII v2 that I have developed "guitar player's elbow," which is actually a form of carpel tunnel injury to the forearm and biceps.

No joke.... for real, and I refuse to stop playing for the many months it would take it to heal.

What it has caused me to do is (finally) learn to play standing up, hoping that would help.

I'm not happy about this and not trying to be funny, but actually it is getting worse.

The problem comes from tucking the elbow and turning the wrist out to get that C chord.

The good thing is it does not hurt when I'm actually playing, but it has hurt my ability to lift weights, another thing I like to do.

Also yeah I also skip dinner. I work all day at a regular desk job wishing I had taken up guitar when I was a kid, then I get home, have to walk the dog, play with my kids when I'm lucky enough to see them....so I get to play guitar from like 7 or 7:30 until 9 or so....dinner is skipped sometimes. I gotta play.... Oh I actually lost by girlfriend because of guitar, literally. Guitar really was the "jealous mistress" and I sort of pushed her away because giving her the attention she needed meant I had little time to play at all. Losing her makes me sad but it gave me more time to practice and inspiration to write a lot of sad minor key songs.

SSP,

I dunno, but I have learned to stretch before and after playing and it is good practice for the whole body.

Ice pack and a strap to hold it in place after practice might help along with maybe changing to a lighter gauge of strings.

I have also had cortisone injections in both arms twice but I would highly *not* recommend this and good posture while playing is keen.

My 2 cents and hope you will feel better playing sooner than later.

HIO

Yes, it has become pandemic. Fender knows all about this but are afraid to address this issue because of legal reasons.

Another issue with the Stangitus, I look at tube amps all the time, I don't go and actually play them. I have been through many of them,,, But when the M3 V2 starts up , with the Gretsch,,, It just seems to dissipate away to the sweet sounds of the M3. Now is the M4 V2 any better? I don't know......

I told my GF multiple times she should be glad I play guitar :P Sure, Fridays are reserved for sessions with the band and of course it might take up a day or two more before a gig or while we're recording, but I at least filled my time with something other than sports (had a serious knee injury, had to stop playing handball; would've had a risky operation and continued training if I hadn't started investing time in guitar and if the operation failed I could barely even walk from what they told me) and, most importantly, she doesn't have to be jealous of any other woman except the 2 beauties I own :P I can barely afford living and GF and musical expenses (and the latter aren't as big as I would have liked, but I'm just a student anyway and they are just a perk) and couldn't even afford cheating on her with another woman, let alone find the time to do it  She does get jealous at guitar sometimes, so I have to satisfy myself with only about 10h of guitar playing per week. I was playing about 35h/week while I was single, but I was in high school back then and had much more free time (a lot more work to do now, due to uni, and a lot of free time goes for GF as well).

So there's an upside to being a guitar freak - whenever your spouse fears you're cheating them with another human being, you can assure the spouse you could only be cheating them with your guitars, and you wouldn't want to violate guitars like that  Not that I am one that would cheat, but whenever my GF is in fear of that, this simple explanation always reassures her I really am being faithful and have no desire of changing it :P

Of course. I mean I could be addicted to drugs or alcohol. It's funny, I started playing during our relationship. She was actually the reason I started playing, and my entire goal the entire time was to progress from playing noise to playing something resembling music that she might actually enjoy listening to while she's doing her art or writing or other stuff that she does. And....I have basically achieved that, but I no longer have her to hear it.

:|

I mean I love Nirvana but I purposely got into playing clean/pretty tones. I can't play jazz yet but I play a lot of arpeggio'd "pretty" sounding clean stuff.

I figured out I will never be in a band that actually does anything, can't find anyone with whom to jam regularly...adult responsibilities and all that. Like Billy Corgan and so many other famous musicians, I figured out, I truly am playing FOR MYSELF. I play what I want to hear (limited by my chops). I have gotten to where I really can listen to stuff I've played and recorded and enjoy it.

I guess that's something.

edit....but the way, you will learn, if you have not already, that you can never tell a woman what she "should" like or be happy about or be thankful for.

YOu will also learn, eventually, that pretty women are thankful for nothing.

Well it's her loss, not yours :P One must support one's spouse in their hobbies, even if both do not share the same hobbies.

Hehe normally I would agree with you, however in this case I wouldn't. If I didn't play guitar, me and my GF wouldn't have ended up together probably :P Besides, we do share the music passion - we love same type of music, I play guitar and she taught me a couple basics on piano which she plays, I taught her a couple basics on guitar, so all good in that respect. She just doesn't like me spending every Friday with the band :)
