I'm about a week into having my new Mustang III, and I am loving it. As I posted in another thread, I came to Mustang kind of backwards. I don't have any "real" gear, so I was doing all my playing through Amplitube on PC. I wanted an amp with a clean FX Return to serve as my power amp for Amplitube.

Well, the Mustang can do that, but I'm finding I can get pretty much everything I need from the Mustang itself, and with the onboard controls and the 2 and 4 button footswitches, it's so much more convenient than messing with my computer.

Today, without using a computer at all, I experimented with the onboard controls until I got exactly what I needed to play A Tear For Eddie by Ween.

- Started with a clean '65 Deluxe and added the Phaser mod and Ambient Reverb, along with neck pickup and coil-tapping on my Schecter C-1 Custom. This worked great for the kind of chorus-y, blues-y first part of the song.
- Then, with one tap of the toe, I switch on the Big Fuzz stomp pedal while also switching to combined bridge and neck pups. Oh man, I felt like Deaner himself wailing away on the great distorted end to the song.

I don't have a point really other than to say I love this amp!!! Who needs Amplitube? I love being able to dial in whatever sound I want without the PC.

Welcome to the wonderful world of amp modeling!! Now you can understand why those of us that have gotten into amp modeling are so confused when the tube snobs grimace at the idea of a modeling amp. It just makes life SOOOOOOOO much easier, huh?

I got the Mustang V V.2 which is complete overkill for my needs... but it sure is fun! Mustang amps are truly phenomenal modeling amps! Line 6 and Peavey don't hold a candle!

Just a thought to you pros out there. Lets just say I placed a Tube Pre in the effects loop of the M3 V2. I do remember I did it with my Line 6 amp a while back, sold the tube pre,,, What Difference does it make? Just a thought.....

It would certainly complicate your setup, but I'm not convinced anyone but yourself would really hear much of a difference in tone. In my experience the modeling amps on the market that have tube pre-amps actually sound LESS authentic on the various amp models than the ones that are purely solid-state.
