Hi guys,

Before you guys yell at me, I just want to say I dont own a Fender. I recently just started playing the Electric Guitar (literally 2 weeks ago). So far, I played the violin for 6 years, not sure if that helps. But I love it. I am currently using my friends old starter set, its an ESP F10 w/ starter AMP. I am no expert, but the sounds from both amp and the Guitar is raw, hard, and of course metal (because ESP makes metal guitars?). It has 1 Humbucker and 1 Single Coil.

I been lurking on the forum forever, I am thinking to buy a Fender Stratocaster or Telecaster for now. However, there are just too many of the same variations of the Strato and Tele. Some made in USA, Mexico, and Now theres a new line made in China which cost the least of the 2 mentioned. Then theres the Squier which my musician friend say its complete crap due to low quality and that for the money I can get a used MIM Strato.

For now, I just want a new Amp. I play mostly in my room, or in the living room. I am using a 10 WATT AMP right now, and I think its frankly loud enough for me. But the sound quality is unbearable, tons and tons of loud static noises even without touching the guitar. I dont think I will ever play in a professional setting or in a band. I love playing blues, some Rock and Roll, and a little bit of Jazz. But if you ask me, mainly just wanna get some cool Jazz Licks down. My budge is like 150-300. 300 is absolute max, and would prefer something a bit more cheaper. I do not plan on upgrading and hope this AMP will be good till it breaks.

Hope you all can help a newbie out. I am loving this hobby so far. I play everyday, and practice hardcore for straight 4 hours or more after work. I do nothing but play guitar when I am at home. Thank you for all the help in advance!

that sounds like it could just as easily be an issue with either the wire you're using, or the guitar itself. So you might replace the amp just to find the same static noises.

I would try swapping the wire first, and if still no good, try plugging a different guitar into the amp (if possible - maybe borrow a friend's?).

Those little 10 watt solid state amps tend to be pretty bulletproof, so I'd check it out before taking the plunge with a new amp.

If the problem is indeed the amp, I'd recommend a Mustang I for comparable practice volume levels. Other will be along soon to give their 2 cents.... :)

Fender Mustang III v2 is amazing and I got mine for $290 including shipping from musicians friend. Since it's solid state, you don't have to worry about malfunctioning tubes and reverb (1950s technology). It has every sound any amp has ever made, especially good enough for home practice.

Thank you both for the quicky reply. Just a small clarification. So Watt power = Price increase. Does the sound quality also factor into this equation other than additional functions and Equalizing options?

The Mustang III also boasts a Celestion speaker, LCD display and XLR out. The larger cabinet certainly helps the sound along too. So you are getting more amp for the money too (not just volume).

The Mustang series seems to be designed to give you what you really need and nothing more, with pricing set accordingly. So if you need to play gigs in decent sized venues, a Mustang III-V would be more appropriate than a Mustang I-II. If you never plan on gigging, or want this as a practice amp in addition to a rig for gigging, it might be more cost effective to go with a Mustang I or II because you really wouldn't need to use some of the features of the bigger models.

EDIT:

The (v2) Mustang amp have all the same models, effects, equalization, etc. The real difference is what hardware it's been slapped onto.

because you simply ask for 15% off and they will give it to you. stop overpaying for gear; it hurts all of us. last year I could have gotten a brand new real 65 deluxe reissue for $900 but ended up not doing it because I had to buy gifts for things like girlfriend and family. that was before they raised the prices of everything $200 this year (it seems)

I got my 2011 american standard strat brand new for $765. It was down to $899 at the time and they still gave me 15% off of that price AND gave me a free dunlop crybaby pedal. no joke. but that was right before the revamped 2012s came out.

that strat was a hell of deal now that street price is up to like $1200. too bad I hate mine and the neck sucks....can't replace it for what I paid.
