First of all, thumbs up for Zzounds! I ordered my Mustang III v2 on Monday morning, using just the basic free shipping option, and my amp was on my porch by 11am Tuesday morning. That is incredible. No California sales tax doesn't hurt either.

OK, so got my amp, and already loving it. But I have some questions.

- Firmware. I updated right away using the "bundled" firmware option. But how can I tell at any point if there is newer firmware available? There's no "check for updates" function that I can find.
- Preset management. I immediately went and downloaded 4 presets from "intheblues" after seeing their great YouTube blind test videos. Now I have 100 presets that came with the amp and 4 that I downloaded. I don't quite understand how to use Fuse to manage the superset of 104. I want to be able to see all 104, and pick and choose at any time which ones I want loaded to my amp and in what order. Can anyone give me a summary overview?

Thanks for any help!

Edited my original post to remove my EXP-1 pedal question. Found out that the 4-button footswitch can plug into the EXP-1, so you can use both at the same time.

As far as firmware, I don't worry about it too much. I just intermittently go to the support area of fender and look at the downloads. The latest one for the Mustang III/IV/V is listed with it's release number. I typically don't do anything with firmware unless I experience a problem.

Obviously you can only have 100 presets loaded at any one time, but you can individually save presets to your hard drive on the PC that's attached to the Mustang with the Fuse software. Be aware this is a different function than the backup function which simply backs up all 100 presets into one file. I don't save all of the presets that came with the Mustang simply because the vast majority of them I'd never use. I do keep a library of presets that I've created, a couple from the original set of presets, and some I've downloaded. I'd say right now I probably have about 20 presets in my library which is more than enough to cover my needs.

I'm not sure about the EXP-1 as I don't use it, but at first glance it would seem to me that if it's taking the 4-button input then you're limited to using the two button switch. Maybe someone else has more info on that.

agreed about Firmware updates, only way I know is by checking this forum.

As far as managing presets ... you have 100 slots on the amp. You can fill them with whatever presets you'd like. If you download a preset to your computer and you want to save it to your amp, you will need to save it over one of those 100 presets (which will overwrite whatever is already there). If you'd like to go back to the stock presets, you always can. But after you start tinkering with making your own presets you probably won't want to. 8)

Firmware:
If I'm not mistaken... When you plug into FUZE it will automatically check and let you know if there is a new firmware version available and if you would like to download.
I am pretty sure this is how it worked for me on the M Floor

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'm good now. I manually (and tediously) used the "get preset from amp" option on all 100 of the original presets so that I can have the whole set of 104 in my library. FUSE does not seem to offer much in the way of multiple select, so everything has to be done one at a time.

Now that I have all the original amp presets on my computer and in my library, I know I can move whatever combination I want to my amp at any time. I just think the whole thing could be a little more user friendly. Also, some sort of cloud storage would be nice, as I tend to grab whatever laptop is handy at the time to connect to my amp...now I have to worry about keeping the local copies of the presets in sync

I've spent some time looking through the XML files that FUSE uses to store all of this information, and I'm thinking about possibly writing some software to help improve the management of presets. Basically, pick up where the old Horse Tamer software left off. If I do, I will make it freely available on this forum.

They should already be there. See:

In the amps memory, all of the original presets are stored. You can DEFINITELY restore one single preset without effecting any of the others.

These are instructions for a PC.

Open FUSE on your PC desktop (click FUSE), choose "open". From there, choose " My Documents", there you will see a "Fender" folder. Inside that is a "Fuse" folder. Click the "Amp Data" folder and there's all your individual factory presets.
Click that preset and it will reload into your amp when connected by USB.

You are then asked if you want to put it back into its original spot, or you can put into any of the one hundred or so other slots.

I keep a separate folder for all my custom presets to avoid erasing or copying over it by accident.

If you make a shortcut for the FUSE folder, that eliminates most of these steps.

The quick way to make a folder of all your presets stored on the amp is to do a backup. This takes seconds. Then navigate to your Fuse folder and look in the “Backups” folder. You’ll see folders reflecting the date of the backup. Inside that are all the presets that were loaded on your amp at the time of the backup. Another handy thing to do is a backup after a factory restore. That way if you ever want an original preset, you can just pull it from the folder. Easier than going on the fuse site and trying to find it.

You got all the best answers so I just wanted to say that of all the presets out there, (intheblues) are some of the best. He's got some great amp comparison videos on you tube.
