Woohoo!! Cigars for all..

I am the proud dad to a brand spanking new Mustang III!!! OK so i am a bit excited. So after a 30 year brake in my guitar star ambitions I have taken it up again. I have a couple of questions about the new AMP:

1) I want to get a cover for it. I looked on web-store and called the brick and mortor stores in my area and they all seam to be "out." Is there a cover made specifically for this amp or should I look for one by the dementions? I would like to get dust cover for it, not looking for a box or shipping creat etc. Of course I could improvise, however I think it would be nice to have one that said Fender on it and fit properly. On verious web sites I have seen coveres for specific amp models.

2) I plugged my ipod into the amp and it sounded suprisingly bad. Apart from my present lack of ability to play the guitar the guitar sound great through it. Is it normal to have losy sounding mp3? I didn't expect great sound. Do I need to select a "clean" channel/Amp model?

3) Read on another post that new speakers need to be broken in or at least there is a brake-in period. Is this something that simply happens with time and use or is there proper way to do this for best sound and longevity?

BTW these forums are great. Really helpful to a newbie like me.

Have a great day and thank you in advance for you guidence.

The official part number is 009-0946-000
Mine was from Amazon.com .... not sure about the availability now. It's a very nice case cover.

You don't need to select a 'clean' preset to use the AUX. It depends on what you mean by bad/lousy. Does it sound distorted? Bad EQ? Low quality MP3's will sound terrible through the AUX - that's something to look at.

I'm not sure about the speaker break-in question. I just played mine normally .... maybe there is a better way.

EDIT: P.s. congrats on the new MIII!

Thank you for the reply! Having the part number will be very helpful.

Sorry for the lack clarity on my description of the sound. I realize now "bad" is not a very good discription. I will attempt to elaborate & clarify. I played a couple of random songs exerpts from my ipod. They sound fine through head phones and regular speakers. The sound was very thin/tinny/flat. Not distorted at all. Very similar to listening to music AM radio.

I guess I could take my ipod over to the store and try a display.

I am just look to set my expectations as well as do a function test while I am in the return period.

Thanks again.

anytime! It may just be the sound of that 12" guitar speaker, or it may be the format of your audio files.

If you are playing highly compressed MP3's, for example, that might sound bad where an uncompressed file played on the same iPod might sound better. I don't suppose you have a portable CD player you can plug in just to rule out the file format?

The only other thing that comes to mind is a crappy or damaged audio cable going from the iPod to the AUX.

The speaker will loosen up after a good bit of playing. Some don't hear the difference between new or worked in speakers so it might just be me.
I went to a fabric store and bought a small roll of heavey duty padded plastic. Kind of like a good table cloth and made my own cover for around 5 bucks. Works well for protection since I gig with it 3-4 times a week. Love my m3 too.

Just wanted to advise: I called Fender. Coveres for the Mustang III are on back order until May or June.

Davebols: Good suggestion on the fabric store. I was going to get a table cloth and improvise!!! May have to take a ride to the fabric store. Thanks for the clarification on the speaker break in.

Once again. Thank you to everyone and all who posts in these forums.

Take care.

There is no way that a single 12" speaker will reproduce music in a way that's considered good. If you had a stereo loudspeaker with a 12" woofer it would probably be complemented with soemthing like a midrange and a tweeter.

You're used to listening to music through speakers or headphones that can reproduce the majority of the audible range... let's call it 20 Hz to 15 kHz. Now you're listening through a 12" speaker with a frequency range that matches a guitar. I looked at the specs for a few Celestion 12" guitar speakers and they're about 75 - 5000 Hz.

I would imagine that if you sent the amp's line out or XLR out to full range speakers that you would be much happier with the MP3 playback.

I use a cable with some ferrite beads for noise supression...I swear I can hear the hard disk spin up through the speaker...

Thank you for the explination on the speakers. This makes sense.

Mark: Thank you for the link. They are back ordered everyplace apparently. I think Fender may have under estimated the popularity of their amp covers!

I am really enjoying the amp.

The cover for a Tech21 PE60 fits the M3v2 like a glove.

It's a heavy vinyl cover (VCR-112SL). From your described needs, I'd wait for the Fender (same price), but at least you know there's a good alternative out there.

Thanks for the alternative. If fender never gets more I'll need one.

I bought a cover for my version 2 IV from Roqsolid in the UK.
Added thicker foam, placeholder and handle flaps and this thing really offers some nice protection. If you don't want any padding at all this can also be removed all together and the Roqsolid will just serve as a heavy duty dust cover.
