I bought a boss Overdrive pedal to use into the effects loop of my floor. It is unusable because of the excessive hum created. I use quality cables, 9v battery power. Interestingly, if I plug my headphones in and listen, there is no hum. But if I run the sound out of the unbalanced or xlr outs, the hum is huge and makes the effect unusable. I've searched around in the settings and haven't found anything to tweak to alleviate this. Any help? Thanks.

Are the cables between the pedal and the amp close to any other cables, particularly power cables? Try re-siting the pedal and its cables somewhere different, away from anything else electrical.

Also, try just running a cable from the fx-send to fx-return sockets, without the pedal in the loop. Do you still get the hum? Does changing the cable routing / positioning change anything?

Does the hum change depending on whether your pedal is in 'bypass' or 'active' mode (assuming it has a bypass).

+1

Another suggestion: Have you tried placing the distortion pedal between the guitar and the amp? I prefer placing the distortion before the preamp and save the effects loops for time-based effects such as delay or chorus. Just a thought.

On the M-Floor, the effects loop is still before the preamp and DSP modelling. So this doesn't change the position of the pedal in the signal chain (and is one of the criticisms of the M-Floor).

However, it's still a good diagnostic suggestion to see if connecting the pedal differently changes or removes the hum. Although the OP seems to have vanished :-(
