Hi folks. Newbie here. Just registered today! Not sure if this is the proper place to post but I'll give it a try. I have several Cyber Champ amps (at 60+ years old they are easy to lift and offer me enough tonal options that I love them) and also just bought a Mustang III amp. Of course, neither have a line out option which I didn't think about when I bought them. When needed, I've been miking the amps with a SM57 but folks are telling me that it's not a difficult thing for an amp techie to wire up a line out jack so I can connect directly to the PA board we use. I'm told that this would not in any way affect the sound I get from the amp and speaker. Not being a techie, I'm cynical so I'd like to get some guidance about this, pro and con. Getting rid of the microphone suits me just fine but I do not want to risk ANY dimunition in the sound or tone coming from the amps. If the consensus is that this is not a problem, is there a good (and bad!) way to accomplish this? Thanks in advance for your expertise.

On the Mustang 3 (v1 and v2) you have a "hidden" line-out: simply take the signal from the fx-send and go direct to the PA

If you have a Mustang 3 V2, you have the two xlr outputs that give you stereo balanced line-out, again direct to PA

in both cases there will be a small difference between what you hear thru the speaker + mic vs the line out, as would be the case of any other line-out of any equipment, because the line-out does not include the cabinet/speaker/mic frequency response.

That said the difference is not huge and you can easily compensate at the PA tweaking the EQ for the channel used for the mustang. As a starting point, tweak your PA parametric EQ as follows:
-bass -2 dB
-mids and low mids +3db
-highs and presence -6db

from there try to adjust until you like what you hear.

Thanks SO much jedi2b for your thoughtful and helpful response. I had hoped that the Mustang III might have some type of "hidden" line out. So I'll try your suggestion the next time I play.

Now it's my ole trusty Cyber Champ that I need some input on to accomplish the same thing. I obviously do not want to disconnect the speaker via the headphone jack so I'll need to know how to get a line out of the Cyber Champ/what's involved since the chassis is sealed/ whether the headphone jack can somehow be rigged not to bypass the speaker and function as a line out and, if so, whether this is something anyone amp techie can easily accomplish?

I'm not familiar with the champ, probably your best bet would be to ask on the champ forum
