How the hell are you supposed to know how to set this thing up? There are no instructions..and the really vague instructions on the mustang manual doesn't tell you much.

This would make a great 'sticky' thread:

Mustang III 2-button Footswitch Instructions

Connect a 2-button footswitch to your Mustang amplifier to enable remote multi-function foot control.

Use the Utility menus to assign one of the following functions to the 2-button footswitch:

• Select presets (up/down)
• Select Quick Access presets (QA1/QA2)
• Bypass effects (various combinations)
• Set TAP interval

1. Press the UTIL button on the top of the amplifier to enter the Utility menu

2. Press the UTIL button 3 more times until the display reads 2-Btn Ftsw Mode. If you pass it by accident, just keep pressing UTIL until it comes around again

3. The footswitch will be set to Down/Up (default setting)

4. Turn the DATA WHEEL until the desired footswitch function is selected

5. Once the desired function is selected, press EXIT. The last thing you chose will stay.

These are the available functions:

a. Down/Up - choose this function if you'd like to simply scroll up and down through the presets. This allows you to scroll through all 100 presets in a linear fashion (in other words, you can't skip from preset 01 to preset 10 without pressing the Up button 9 times or the Down button 91 times).

b. QA1/QA2 - choose this function if you'd like to use the pedal to switch between 2 Quick Access presets of your choosing. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

c. Stomp/Mod - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn a modulation effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

d. Stomp/Delay - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn the delay effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

e. Stomp/Reverb - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn the reverb effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

f. Stomp/Tap - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to set delay time or modulation rate settings for the selected preset by rhythmically pressing button 2. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

 NOTE: You might wonder why there are 3 Quick Access slots when there are only 2 buttons on the footswitch. That's where the optional 4-button footswitch comes in. You can use it by itself to get similar options to the 2-button footswitch, but with a little more flexibility:

4-Button Footswitching options

Connect a 4-button footswitch to your Mustang amplifier to enable remote multi-function foot control. The footswitch display and LEDs show you some of the same information as the amplifier screen, so you can, for example, tune your guitar and select presets by watching the footswitch without ever looking at the screen onboard the Mustang III!

• Select Quick Access presets (QA1/QA2/QA3)
• Select presets (up/down/bank)
• Bypass effects
• Activate the Tuner

You can also use the 2-button and 4-button footswitches together to gain access to more than a dozen footswitch options:

6-Button Footswitching options

Plug both a 4-button and a 2-button footswitch into your Mustang amplifier to expand your remote control options. By assigning different functions to each footswitch you can create more than a dozen different foot control combinations.

For example, you could assign Quick Access presets to the 4-button footswitch and Up/Down presets to the 2-button footswitch. Or you could bypass effects with the 4-button footswitch and select presets with the 2-button footswitch.

Please read through and post any questions here. :)

Yes there are. The "advanced owners manual" for your amp includes a section on the footswitch. Also see this article, which gives more information about the footswitches:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... ootswitch/

The above article also includes a link to download the advanced owners manual, in case you haven't already done that. Here's the same link too (for the V1 amps, but the footswitch stuff is the same whether you have a V1 or V2 amp):

http://support.fender.com/manuals/guita ... nglish.pdf

Or, is that what you've already read and found "vague" ? In which case apologies for repeating; personally I found the instructions in the manual fine.

yep, the info in my post above is just a condensed version of the instructions in the Advanced Manual.

Thx for the replies.

If you chose any of these options below then you cant use the 2 button to scroll up and down..

You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

great! Not too bad once you figure it out. To answer the previous question, I only use the 2 button and 4 button pedals together at home, for gigs I just bring the 4 button pedal.

Too bad you cant change the led on the foot switch to show a name of a patch and not just a number(like my boss gt-8). I will have to print out what each number means and put it beside the foot switch

I've had a few similar controllers. The thing is, even if it displays the name of the current preset ... you're still not going to see the names of the other presets until you press the pedal to get to those presets, y'know what I mean? You still need to know what number is what.
