Analog signals don't operate on a time-based relay system like digital systems do. But then again, you're not sending audio signals through a USB cable. That's all digital information. We're talking +5.0vDC and ~0v DC as your high and low signals respectively.

While USB has a +5V pin, that is not used for signaling. The signal voltage is around -0.1 to 0.4V. The max differential is around 0.5V

We treat these signals as (1 - ON) and (0 - OFF) in the IT world.

For USB, this is wrong. A change from high to low or low to high signifies a zero, while staying at either high or low signifies a one.

Each changes must happen on a clock cycle multiplier.

Or not. The clocks on the sender and receiving end do not run in step, so before any data is sent, a synchronization sequence is sent.

Back in 1998, that meant on the order of 100Mhz. Now, who knows?

In 1998, a typical USB 1.1 controller would run with an 8-12.5 MHz internal clock, muxed through a PLL to 4x or 8x signals.

so the point is, a decent quality USB 2.0 wire, up to 15' should be just fine.

...and don't forget to coil it around a bunch of power cables as I do for best results! :)

This just in: I went to Fry's today and purchased a 10' long USB extension.
So far it is working as desired. No problems, and no delay in response.
I almost went for the 6-footer, but got the 10', what the hay, as Richie Brockleman used to say.
It was $3.95. Way, way cheaper than that retailer whose intials are BB.
Thanks for the idea, Jedi2b.
