I'm trying to use Amplitube with my Mustang amp via USB. I am using the Fender ASIO driver and I use the cleanest tone I can set the mustang to, but for some reason I get horrible fuzzy phazer like noise that comes and goes. Fuze works great and I don't have that problem at all. It only happens in Amplitube (Does it in Amplitube3 and in Amplitube Fender SE). So I was wondering if it was my sound card which is SigmaTel on Dell Inspirion 1521. Anyone know of that is a known issue? I tried different buffer settings but nothing seems to get rid of the problem.

If you only get the fuzziness on recordings from your Mustang, but all other sound output from the PC is fine, then it isn't the PC sound card. Also FUSE is irrelevant here, there is no audio transferred from amp to PC when using FUSE.

Best suggestion is to turn down the amp's USB GAIN. I forget exactly how to do that, but search the forum for USB GAIN, there are lots of posts that explain what to do.

To access the USB gain setting, click on the "advanced amp" button in fuse. Its right where the Sag and Bias controls live

Also worth mentioning, the same adjustment can be done on the amp:

To access this feature, press and hold the Exit button on your amp and turn the channel Volume knob to the desired output level while recording is armed in your DAW.

I tried setting USB gain to 0% and still had the problem. Tried it both in Fuse and on the amp itself. I still get this uncontrollable squeltch that appears in the audio out of no where it seems. Then it goes away. Doesn't affect Fuse at all. I even got it using the cleanest presets.

if you're recording when the sound comes on, does the sound (noise) get recorded?

I'm going to try to capture the noise in Amplitube. I have a case opened with them also in the hopes of finding a resolution.

I'll try to present it here if it captures so you can see how horrible it sounds.

If you're recording via USB, the digitally encoded sound goes straight into Amplitube. So there can't be any distortion on the input path.

Do you hear the distortion only when listening to the 'live' sound through the PC speakers while recording, or only do you hear the distortion when playing back the recorded sound later, or both?

If you have the amp volume turned up during recording, do you hear the distortion through the amp speaker, or only through the PC speakers?

Do you also have a microphone input 'active' at the same time as you're recording the guitar signal via USB? If so, I wonder if this is adding an out-of-phase (slightly delayed, etc) version of the guitar sound to the recording. That might account for the effect you're hearing.

I suggest you turn the amp volume to zero, the PC speaker output to zero, and disconnect all other sound input and outputs (microphones, etc) from your PC. Then record a guitar signal using Amplitube (obviously you won't hear anything while recording it).

Then play back the recorded sound on the PC (having reconnected the speakers etc). Is it clean, or does it still have distortion? If this sound is clean, you can then add other devices etc, one at a time, until you find the culprit.

I know I had it as clean as possible at the amp and as low as possible on the volume but not off. I had it up enough to get noticable volume out of Amplitube. But I'll go back and verify a few points you made this weekend and even try it with out the volume and see if the noise comes in. I had no other microphone or inputs active other than the USB input. I was using headphones and speaker outputs on the laptop to monitor the sound.
