Hi all, I just curious if Mustang Floor is fizzing like Mustang V.1 amp when input volume is above device capability e.g. using overdrive or bost pedal before amp? I have using v.1 amp before I trade it for MII v.2 and I know how bad it sound if I using boost pedal or high output pickup. Even fuzz face that tend to be low output effect can make fizzing sound (like modulating sound) if plugged into v.1 amp.

I have a plan to upgrade my rig, I playing a band in small cafe and I can't using my MII because it just 40 watt, I don't know if I should take Mustang Floor because of its simplicity and not so heavy to bear (the cafe has more PA & active speaker so I wouldn't worry for it) or should I trade my MII to MIII/MIV?

get both!

The floor is excellent to move around but there's one drawback that you need to be aware of: with the floor, inevitably you are going to need and external power amp and speakers, potentially different on each venue.
So if you get the floor, depending on how much tonally-obsessive you are, plan on getting to the venue in advance to adjust you floor output, particularly the bass response.

With a mustang 3 you should be more than fine for medium sized venues, and when you do get to play in Wembley Stadium, you can still use your Mustang 3 as a powered monitor, and connect the stadium PA to the XLR output :)
The only downside is that you need to carry around 16kg of amp goodness around.

In my case, I got both :) I use the M3 to play at home, then I copy the presets to the Floor. As I always use the Floor on the same venue, I know what to correct on the floor output voicing to make it sound similar to the M3 speaker at home (essentially add a bunch of mids and lower the bass in most cases, as the regular PA is flat response, compared to the middy guitar speaker on the Mustang3)

An issue with my current setup is that some amp models and effects are not supported on the floor. Check if you need those before deciding.

Thanks for reply jedi2b. Yes I would get both . But my budget for now is just enough for buying Mustang Floor :P, it's quite rare here, in Indonesia, and a bit pricey if compared to musiciansfriend or zzounds, it's about 320 USD in here and MIII about 400 USD. If compared to my salary is just about 250 USD a month.

I have consider that Floor have fewer amp model, it doesn't matter because I just using Twin Reverb, Plexi & SuperSonic model. But there is some thing that I worry about, I have experience with V.1 amp when I using Twin Reverb for clean tone there is a noticeable fizz especially if I using bridge pickup on my Epi Les Paul. Did it happen on Mustang Floor?
If Mustang Floor doesn't have fizzing problem then I would go for Floor first, then maybe MIII later.

I used to have a Mustang 3 V1 and yes, that amp did some humming and fizzing on the clean amp models. The source of that fizzing was the power amp section. The mustang floor does NOT have a power amp section, so no fizz there :)

just be aware of 3 things:
-you are going to need an external powered speaker, or a power amp and speakers or use it with phones
-in order for it to sound like a real guitar amp, you are going to need to tweak your tone stack to add more mids, and lower treble (because your PA speakers are very different from a guitar amp speaker)
-the only hardware part that I do not like about the floor is the power supply, Fender includes a cheap 2$ power supply and the cable looks very fragile. I strongly recommend buying a replacement (not from Fender or you are going to get the same thing again!). This is the one I bought for 2$ from China and works fine (the 1 amp version)

I think you got 220v in Indonesia, so it should work fine over there I guess. Or you can use your own as long as it is compliant with the following:

Connector: 5.5 x 2.1mm
Output voltage: DC 12V
Output current: 1A or more
Power supply polarity: Inside positive outside negative

Hmm, so it's come from power amp. I'm happy to know that.
Okay, I would get Floor first.
Thanks for your help jedi2b

If you upgrade your MII to a MIV version 2; you will likely never need any other amp again for home or concert use... just sayin!

Mr Tiger is essentially right :)

I would pick myself the 3 instead of the 4 for space and transportability reasons, but the 4 sounds bigger no doubt.

Anyway, when I compare either the 3 or 4 to my mates tube dinosaurs, any of the two are feather weight :)

Hi jedi2b

I'm one of those tone obsessive people haha

It's probably been one of the most discouraging things in my music hobby.

I have yet to find the tone I seek.
If you search my posts you will find a break down of what I'm playing through & currently working with. This, will change in the middle of the week as I will be buying SOMETHING to play my MF through.

You talk about the differences in PA/AMP setups and this is what has been weighing heavily on my mind lately. I mentioned it in another post where I asked about the Marshall MG30FX (x2 for stereo) and have yet to have any replies.
(feel free to comment over there if you'd like as to keep from side tracking this thread)

So, you actually confirm my fears;
I'll be searching for "my tone" using a PA. Where as, I feel, I should get dedicated guitar amps and dial in my tone and have it ALWAYS there, so to say.

Just not sure what to get. I have found SEVERAL Half Stacks (Peavey, Stagg, B52, Raven, Marshalls, Hartke, Crate, etc) on Craigslist from $200 - $500.
I will need TWO half stacks, keep in mind. And, then I am concerned about not being able to "match" the half stacks because of the inability to find two of the same kind.

Ok. I'm gonna hold up here because I fear I'm derailing the OP's thread :D

If I had to buy a floor AND a power amp AND a cabinet, I would buy instead a Mustang 3 or 4 (depending on budget and transportability considerations.
the only thing you will be missing will be the EXP pedal (that you can add later if you wish) but I do not use the the expression pedal myself.

The M3 and 4 are simply the best bang for your buck you can get and you are not really compromising on anything:
-you can use at low volumes at home or at ear splitting volumes on medium venues (not all cabinets will work like this)
-you can eventually use it as a on stage monitor and feed the venue PA via the included XLRs
-you always get the same tone everywhere
-at 16kg (M3) is probably among the lighter amps with a 12 inch speaker
-the included speakers are top quality and will last forever
-in case you need it, the fx loop on the M3-4 is WAY better than the one included on the Floor (search my other posts for a clue why)
-all in a self contained package, the issue you are having rigth now of asking if a fender equipment will work fine with a marshall thingy... you will never find a real answer, because possible combinations are infinite
-if you need any kind of distortion/drive pedals, and unless you are a pedal snob, with the Mustang 3-4 VERSION 2, chances are you are never going to need an external pedal again, I'm yet to find a sound I cant emulate with the onboard effects. The Floor is VERSION 1 so you are going to be missing on effects like Tubescreamer, Boss SD-1, PRo-CO RAT, big muff.
-no need to worry about the flimsy external power supply as is the case on the floor

The only reason I have both the M3 and the floor is because I play on the same venue always, the floor is already adjusted for that venue's PA, and the floor is easier to transport.
