As to the blind test vid, near enough is going to be good enough for many players, even more so at the price. The success of Mustang, and modellers in general, probably attests to that. Not every player is an obsessive gear head.

I think the success of the Mustang is also greatly attributed to its affordability... a hobbyist guitarist simply cannot afford multiple tube amps and a slew of analog effects pedals and stomps! Personally, I am getting more into amplification (have my first ever half-stack now with my MV) but when it comes down to plunking the big bucks I would really always rather get another guitar than another amp!

I don't prefer stomp boxes.

I have always liked to be able to go from Clean/Reverb > Clean/Chorus/Reverb> OD/Reverb w/out having to click on/off multiple floor units.

With the MF it gives me the option to hit 1 button and get the tone&sounds I want.

The MF was, IMO & for MY needs, an outstanding value.
To me, just as good as units costing $100+ more.

I'd imagine the Mustang Amps are just as good.

Maybe one day I can buy a tube amp and see if the hype is justified :D

I for one am not going to bother when it comes time to upgrade my amp. Had a nice tube amp (Hot Rod Deville) that was stolen. Loved that amp but it weighed a ton. I got my mustang II to get back into playing after a bit of a hiatus to get my career going and a being a bit down and out about all my gear being stolen and I gotta say I love this amp. It was supposed to suffice until I freed up some cash to get another nice Fender tube amp, probably a Deluxe but I’m sticking with this product line. I love the ability to have it all in one box or add an external stomp or two if I wish and as much as I LOVE Fender cleans, I sometimes just get a hankering for some Marshally tones or if I decided to go tweed, I can do that. Should have gotten the MIII, for the soul reason that I wouldn’t mind the LCD screen and extra foot switch options, but if you take the time to set up the Mustang I/IIs presets and FX Knobs you can get by with minimal use of fuse.

Wow, the tubes aren't the only things that heat up . . .

I'm glad things got back to civil in this thread---the mutual respect is one of the things I appreciate about this forum.

I've said this in other threads: As far as Fender amps go, I've owned, gigged and depended on a Princeton, Bassman (these two were pre-CBS), and a QuadReverb for my living. My Mustang IIIv2 has become my favorite Fender and, from equipment and performance aspects, I don't miss any of my three original Fenders anymore.

I may be a newbie on this forum and I will admit I do not have my Mustang Floor that I ordered yet but the whole tube snobbery thing boils down to people justifying the money they have spent and refuse to acknowledge the FACT that there are modelers and SS amps out there that can sound and play as good or better than gear costing 10x more.

I'm a working guitarist that usually fixes his own amps (though I wont call myself a Pro amp tech, I am a Pro Electronics Bench Tech) and I also know many tube amp techs and the the prevailing mentality among all of them is that ALL DIGITAL GEAR IS JUNK!

Why do they think this way? Well I have a strong suspicion after pressing a few of them on the topic through the years, that they are afraid of the technology because they do not understand it and therefore can't repair it, they also fear losing all that sweet cash they make off repairing tube amps. It boils down to fear.

I am a gear head that has owned (and still do) many Tube and SS amps and also modeling gear, racks, pedals both analog and digital and I can say with pure objectivity that the whole tube amp hype is just that..hype. Don't get me wrong, my favorite amp is a 1976 SF Twin. Though It's modded to the gills.

Ever played a Tech 21 Trademark 60 or 120? In my opinion it's does the "Marshall" sound and feel better than Marshall does. If I had a choice between a JTM 45 with a full stack of vintage greenbacks or a Trademark 120 I'd take the Trademark every day. Not only do they sound and play better but they are much easier to lug around. Resale value? I don't care about that, I'm a player not a collector.

Just to close out my long post I can say with 30 years of experience behind me that there is no Tube Vs. SS argument..it's all hype and BS. Whatever you choose for you is what is best period no matter how many tube purists hold their breath and stomp their feet.

Amen to that brother! I'm a newb on the forum too so I had not seen this thread before, and I gotta say...it's a really interesting read. I don't care much for the whole argument, because I simply love my Mustang III.

Had a Tech 21 Trademark for many a year. These are good amps with an achiles heel. The shared EQ makes it a pain in the arse if you want to use both channels in a gig. Although each channel is great on their own they are terribly mis-matched. I used to throw an EQ in the loop to try and level things out a bit - but its still a compromise.

I got turned onto the Stang because I had heard a good friend of mine use one live and he had a very convincing sound - particularly the crunch which modellers or SS never seem to do that well. Like me my friend is a Gibson/ Marshall guy through and through so for him to use a Stang, for me at any rate, is a big endorsement.

The Tech 21 was sold for more than I bought the Stang for even with the 4 button switch plus the EXP1 so I guess that does say something for the T21, however it is old technology and having worked heavily with the stang for a few weeks now (and drove everyone mad in the process) I reckon the sounds from the T21 TM are starting to show there age compared with the Stang. T21 need to give this amp a refresh. That said I am still desperate to use the Stang live and will have to wait a couple of weeks before our next gig to pass final judgement.

Stang vs Tube - sorry without wanting to start the whole argument up again for me as a picky guitarist Tube still has something that modelling or analogue for that matter cannot reproduce. HOWEVER I know that the average punter cannot tell the difference - blimey if I go and see a bad and have had a few I don't think I care either as long as the band is decent!

I guess at this point its a big pat on the back for Fender for producing a low cost amp that does seem to do a great job tone wise while keeping the interface as simple as possible. Still await that first gig though and we will see how she cuts through the mix.
