Sorry if there's already been a topic similar to this.

So I've had my amplifier for a while now and have used the direct USB recording to record mostly clean guitar onto Audacity, however when I get to recording distortion (I mostly use the Metal 2000 preset) I can't seem to get a clear enough tone without "fuzz" and I'm wondering if there's a straight-talking way to get an OK quality recorded through this method?

Thanks~

Is it ONLY the recorded sound that has the buzz? i.e. the playback?
Or does it sound the same while recording and during playback?
If it sounds the same... try switching out the cab... that is usually a quick fix for that kind of thing.
Don't worry about what it's called... even if it is a 1-12. If it sounds good. It is good.

If it is fuzzy only during playback... make sure your not peaking on the input. it should have some way to monitor the input signal.

Turn down the USB Gain until it is clear.

on distorted sounds you get way more high end harmonics than with clean sounds, so supossing you already lowered the USB gain and this is not a input clipping problem, what I would suggest would be to, record the sound as is, then apply an EQ function inside audacity to make the sound closer to what you get thru the Mustang speaker.

The EQ function to use, to be closer to the actual mustang speaker response whould be something like the following graphic (this is the actual frequency response of my mustang 3 speaker captured by me, after 100 frequency sweep analysis), consider 45 on this graphic as 0db on the audacity eq, so for example you will have a peak of +10db on 500hz, and +5db for 1khz and -10db for everythig above 4Khz or so.

I´d suggest checking the USB gain; I generally set it at 10 o´clock (imagine it is a round clock). If it´s too high, it won´t sound good.

On Audacity, I try to have a waveform within the 0,5 and -0,5 range, with occasional peaks between 1 and -1. If it is too high, I lower it with the function "amplificate" (in EFFECTS), and set it to a negative db number (lowering -1, -2, -4, etc...).

I get good results.

Keep us updated, please.

Sabas.
