For those who know Reaper (with a PC)-
under preferences- (Audio)- Device:
In Audio System I chose ASIO driver
In ASIO Driver I chose Fender Universal ASIO (Reaper DOES recognize it)

below the ASIO Driver box are the Enable inputs boxes.
but both first and last say
1: Not Connected 1
2: Not Connected 2

Why?

Before my Mustang I was using another modeling amp into an M-Audio and the USB out of the M-Audio into my computer.
I just disconnected the M-Audio and I plugged the USB from my Mustang II into the computer.

Also- in the Sound section of my computer's Control Panel, under Recording, I chose Mustang Amplifier (my computer recognizes it) as an Internal AUX Jack and I enabled it as the Default (Recording) Device.

Why does Reaper say Not Connected under Enable Inputs?

you would get better results using a microphone and your M-Audio interface to capture the sound of your amp, the USB audio from the amp sounds overly compressed and unconvincing, In my opinion, I have the Mustang V head, I use the sends of the fx loop and run those into my audio interface, I would mic my amp just don't have the option of turning the amp up very loud most of the time, so for me the sends from the fx loop into my usb interface produce a much better sound than the Mustang's USB, Ok if you must record from the Mustangs USB there are a couple of things you could try, 1. try a new usb cable, 2. try a different USB port, 3. try unplugging any USB devices that you are not using while recording, You could have an I/O conflict over USB that is causing your amp to show not connected in ASIO., But you might want to just mic that amp, you would get a more convincing sound with a mic

I def. don't want to mic my amp- it's an apartment thang.
I have come right out of the Mustang's Headphone Jack into my M-Audio and get a perfectly acceptable sound- but the cheapo outputs on the amp (both USB and headphones) are too wimpy to have a cable come out of them with-out and jiggling of the cabels. I always have to loop the cable through the hand to stabilize the cables (I often use the headphones and the USB for FUSE adjusting).
As the cable moves around just slightly, you get all sorts of crackle and hum. Fender really should have a way to secure a cable which is connected to those output jacks.

Also, I think you read my post wrong. The Mustang's ASIO driver IS recognized in Reaper. But below the ASIO driver section there is the "Enable Inputs" section I mentioned which reads not connected - I believe that is where the problem is.

I read your post right, and I answered your questions as to what the problem could be, try a different USB port, try a different cable, try rebooting your computer, it could be a number of things that are causing an I/O conflict over USB, I have seen this before and I have had USB audio devices not play well with each other, I have a Lexicon Alpha USB interface, A Hercules DJ Console Interface, An ART USB Dual Tube Pre, and An M-Audio Oxygen 25 Midi keyboard, as well as a mustang amp these devices don't play well together due to USB conflict, sometimes it's a matter of using a different port, sometimes the computer needs to be rebooted, also unplug any USB devices that you are not using when recording, It's gonna take a little trial and error to find out what the problem is, another tip the fender ASIO driver is just ASIO4ALL with Fenders name attached to it. try using plain old ASIO4ALL instead,

"ASIO driver is just ASIO4ALL with Fenders name attached to it. try using plain old ASIO4ALL instead,..."- This sounds like a good idea.

I'll also try some different USB inputs (more than I already have) and see how that goes.
Thanks for following through- I appreciate it.

Are you familiar with Reaper?- specifically Reaper Preferences?

The Audio System box is on ASIO.

But the ASIO Driver box only has two choices- either the Fender Universal or the M-Audio (which is disconnected)

so all I can choose from is the Fender Driver.

I tried different cables and different USB ports to no avail.

I'll probably go back k to coming out of the Mustang's Headphone output into my M-Audio.

That sure is a precarious connection, though.
It hums and crackles unless it's in the EXACT right angle! It's basically a $@!&#* output.
Fender should have used a 1/4" headphone out and made headphone users use an adapter if their headphone jack was a mini jack.

I really have no advice but I use the asio 4 all driver and I've set up Reaper on 2 machines, to record from the Mustang USB, no problem.
And sure, next time I want to record something properly, rather than a sketch, I'll use a mic.

USB can get messed up in Windows - check your device manager (can be found from system control panel) and under USB controllers, if there is a yellow flag then something is borked. Check internet for solutions, it can be a right pita.

I am slightly familiar with Reaper, I don't care for Reaper myself, if you need the asio4all driver you can find it for free at asio4all.com I could have it set up and running in a matter of a couple of minutes if I was in front of your computer, All I can do in the forum is suggest a few trouble shooting steps, If anybody else knows more about this than I do feel free to help out,

Check the Windows Cntrl Panel and if more than one Recording Devices are enabled/if an entry for Mustang is not enabled...adjust as needed.. Yo may have to restart reaper or even reboot.
I've been having some success with the above switching between a Mic and a Rocksmith cable as input.
