I just picked up a mustang V half stack for my kid, played his first gig a couple of days ago with it and was great but have several concerns and hope that someone can give me some tips!

The nice thing about this amp is the amount of sound you can generate so I created a specific sound for each song but the problem was when we changed presets after each song, the volumes were pretty off and had to do manual adjustments witch was very complicated getting that right volume for each song. We did a sound check and tried to get same volumes but when the band was playing was preety hard to make adjustments.

We bought a pretty good volume pedal witch did not worked so well with this amp so I would appreciate if someone had this same situation would be great if you could share some tips.

Thanks!!!

This is where the master volume control comes into play. Any preset, including those included with amp should be tweaked in. Set the master at a reasonable level home work. Play each preset and adjust the volume and gain to liking but at consistent volume. The re-save the preset.

Now you should be able to set the overall volume with your master and have the presets fairly consistent. Out of the box, they vary dramatically.

No, here's where you get into the realm of "home practice" VS "live gig". You can set the preset volumes all you want at home with the MV on 2. That doesn't mean ANYTHING once you actually start playing with a band at volume (MV 4-5). And it doesn't really have anything to do with volume. It has to do with how the guitar's playing frequencies fit into the band's mix. That means MIDS...and LOTS of them.

Different speaker cabinet simulators fit your sound into the mix differently. If you play with the amp on 4x12M, you'll need about 1.4x the volume than you would need if you played with 4x12V. This is because the 4x12V simulates Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, which have a fairly big "MID" boost for that hard rock sound. The 4x12M, by contrast, models Celestion G12T-75 speakers. It boosts bass and treble frequencies, making it sound more scooped and thus making it VERY hard to fit into a mix unless you're just trying to play thrash metal and chug along with the preset volume a lot higher just to be heard.

And the 4x12G is Celestion Greenbacks (G12M). Great for that vintage Van Halen sound or pulling off AC/DC. They also fit well into a band mix for rock.

You and your son have to keep this in mind when you're making your presets. You NEED to play with the rest of the band while doing this in order to learn the differences. This will make setting up the amp before gigs a lot easier.

Hi,

I have a Mustang iii amp and I have "equalized the volume" on all of the desired presets. Now I would like to set my EXP-1 pedal so the heel volume is 40% of the "equalized the volume" and the toe volume is 100% of the "equalized the volume". How do I do that?

Can this be a global setting or does it have to be set for each preset?

Thanks,
ReSound

I was going through this very same problem. I figured if I had fuse up and running I would adjust the volume on the amp displaced on the fuse window. I did it with 5 of my favorite per sets and spent a little more time on the 3 I can switch to with the foot switch. I also found not to have the guitar volume up all the way. This way I have a little extra boost. Now they are all about the same volume level. I have a couple different guitars I tried it with. Trick is easy have the amp loud as you want and have the guitar volume at 1/2-3/4. Horton

In FUSE, go to: Main Menu, Utilities, Expression Pedal. You can set the values for the heel and toe position here. Read the FUSE manual (page 13) for more details:

This has to be set for each preset. The EXP-1 settings are stored separately for each preset. This is precisely so that (for example) you could have one preset with the pedal controlling volume, and another preset with the pedal controlling wah, etc.
