Hello,

I know this has been touched on a bit regarding high output pups with the mustang amps but wondering if anyone here is using overwound style pups and can offer feedback (no pun intended) on the performance. Mrs. C got me a Seymour Duncan SSL5 for Christmas and can't wait to hear it. Anyone here using this pup or Texas Specials or other comparable output pups?

thanks.

Have Texas Special styled (custom made hand wounds) in my'62 AVRI. No problem-o. My III loves 'em. The amp is very responsive to them... no issues. Sound great!

Thanks... can't wait to break out the soldering iron and get this puppy in. Have to go get some strings first. Hopefully will install it this weekend or next week.

I'm using DiMarzio D-Activator X pickups, I have a push pull volume pot for coil splitting, I have to use the coil split to get a clean tone, in full humbucking mode these pickups push the amp too hard for a true clean sound, other than that they work great for blues. metal, classic rock etc.. and don't seem to push the mustang too hard , I also have a mini toggle to throw the bridge pickup out of phase, I find that I like the middle position neck and bridge with the bridge pickup out of phase the most,. kinda thins it out and gives me a nice tone, When I did put the DiMarzio's in I had to go through all my presets and lower the gain, but no biggie, all is well

Good to know thanks. I haven't gotten a chance to put the pup in yet. On vacation next week so will be breaking out the soldering iron. I checked out the DiMarzio and looks to be 14k and change. The SD is between 12k and 13k so maybe I'll get lucky and just have to back off the volume a bit for the cleans. I'll update when I do the deed. Hopefully it all works out... I've been wanting this pup for a while now

I tested mine with a multimeter before I installed them I don't remember what the neck pickup read, but I do remember getting a reading of 15.6k on the bridge pickup, you should be ok with the pickup change,.

I have a '57 Classic + in the bridge position on my Broadway. Not a super-hot, over wound pup: Gibson describes it as "having a few extra turns."

At any rate I REALLY like the sound of this pick up on MIV V2. I can really create/recreate some classy blues tones. Coincidently, these pups (have a '57 Classic at the neck) sound really nice with the '57 Bassman.

why do people call their pickups pups ? it's not a pup. speaking of pups I have a yellow labrador pup I am trying to train, She is a smart dog but puppy training is new to me, seems to be working somewhat, I suppose I must be patient, She will learn, Ok enough of that it just erks me how lazy folks have become with their spelling and using the actual intended words to describe what they are speaking of, I suppose it is more of a personal problem That I have more than anything else but when I hear somebody call a pickup a pup it grates on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard

Too lazy to type the extra characters. Time for me to dust off one of my blues favorites, Walkin' the Dog. Ah ooooh!

I figured as much, I wasn't trying to be rude to anybody, just had to vent a lil, seeing it written isn't as bad as somebody speaking it, I watch alot of gear reviews on youtube and actually hear these guys call pickups pups, like a two syllable word needs to be abreviated, I suppose I should focus my time on something more meaningful than my many pet peeves, No Offense to anybody in particular was meant by my rant, I just fail to understand certain things like smartphones, texting, facebook, twitter, murdering the english language out of convienence etc.. all this seems to bother me a great deal and I am only 35, I want to go back to a better time, Again personal problems I have, not to offend anybody else, to each their own

Hi Kreature,

I think most of us took it the way you intended. I thought it was a good post which is why I added my own smart*** remark.

I am a couple decades older than you and I am bit slow to start using some of the gear-slang or contractions. Pups is new to my vocabulary the past six months and it is due to being easier to type on these tiny keyboards.

Each to his own Kreature - one could say you're murdering the language with your sloppy missing capitals and lack of full stops (periods)

I guess I'm near Archtop Bill's age and I don't like 'lol' , or 'lil' come to that, I don't do texts unless absolutely required and I have no smartphone.
But I use pita and imho .. and pups - we're all getting messed up by it.
My care and attention to spelling online degrades month by month.
Give me pen and paper and I'll write much better, if I can remember how to hold a pen.

Kreature I have to say I agree. I would never say pup outload for sure and I guess I just got used to pup being thrown around on these forums but I always thought it a bit silly. On that note ...

Thanks for all the feedback folks "what would rock and roll be without feedback". Can't wait to install my PICKUP

Hopefully this weekend.

Cheers

True. on the internet I use commas in place of periods, I don't always capatilize in the right spots, so touch'e, If I am wrong in any way I will admit to it, I at least try my best to spell words in their entirety. Which isn't enough I know, even if I spell a word or two wrong now and then. and yeah you got me on the lil, I am guilty of using that one, I guess I just see the ones younger than myself by about 10 to 20 years and their brains are turning to complete mush due to their so called smart phones and being connected to facebook all day every day, They can't spell at all, I don't think the schools teach anymore, Everyone gets a trophy just for showing up, Don't wanna hurt anybody's feelings, It's having an adverse effect on society. The schools are churning out fresh morons every year and it gets worse each year, I suppose this has been observed by generations before mine, and I'm sure people 10-20 years older than myself felt the same way about the way my generation was brought up,and I would be inclined to agree, Ok I'll stop here, This is getting deeper than need be,
