Hey everybody! I am new to the guitar world and I just picked up a mustang I V2. I am wondering what preset I should use for learning to play guitar. Does it really matter?

I would recommend that you use a clean preset, But after you get comfortable, just use anything that sounds good! I heard many people sound great until they play clean! I hope you know what I mean. Have fun, it is a very fun amp to play with! MK

Two answers:

1. Use whatever preset sounds good to you and encourages you to pick up the guitar and play/practise! Just playing as much as possible and enjoying what you hear is what matters.

2. If you want to improve your technique, use a 'cleaner' sound as that will highlight more any deficiencies in your style. Distortion and other effects can mask bad playing - but that hasn't stopped many guitarists making a living that way! :-)

In addition to the advice above, I suggest trying to learn a simple song you know and like in your favourite genre. Use the Mustang effects to get a similar sound. You may start with just an inro, for example: many people I know have started with Smoke On Th Water byDeep Purple.

As the guys have said above, find a sound or song which makes you want to play. Enjoyment is the main thing, but accept that you are learning and may need to persevere. Having a good sound is therefore important, and the Mustang will help you do that.

My final newbie tip is: make sure your guitar is in tune before and during playing sessions.

Hope this helps.
