Hello all! This little amplifier is driving me to drink very heavily!!!!! All I wanted was a simple amp that will let my guitars sound the way they were meant to sound ... this thing does 92,000 things, which is great, if that is what I wanted! All I want is a clean setting so my Ibanez Jazz Box sounds like herself, my Fat Strat sounds like a Fat Strat, Tele like a Tele ... you get the idea! How do I accomplish that with this little beast? Do I throw it off the Sunshine Skyway? Run it over with the car? Is there a clean setting like a Vox 30 that I can use without needing a PHD in Electronic Cyber Psichosis?? I am tired of trying to download stuff ... no clue where it ends up, great "Destructions" with this amp ... Or is it easier to trash it? If trash is a good thing ... what do you reccomend for an amp that will let me adjust the guitar sound, not the amplifier to make the guitar sound like ... I am sure you get it by now. Rant over!! Please help an old guy? Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone ...

Fender Twin Reverb is a very very clean amp, set the gain to below 5.

If you want a simple 'plug 'n' play' amp that isn't as versatile as this one, I suggest changing it for one of the other Fender amps. I did use to own a Fender Frontman 212R, a nice 100W transistor amp that will do what you want. You can also try out a couple of tube amps and purchase one of those.

Yes. Select a preset with the "British 60s" amp model*. Turn off all effects by turning the mod and dly/rev knobs all the way to the left**. Turn the gain down (not necessarily all the way to the left, just to where it gives the sound you want. That's it.

If you want, you can 'save' these settings back to the amp to make it easier to select next time; this is explained in the manual as simply as I could explain it here, so no need to repeat.

* "British 60s" will give you a VOX AC30 sound as per your request. If you want a more neutral sound, then "65 Twin Reverb" is a good choice instead.

** Personally I think you get a nicer sound by leaving just a little bit of reverb, rather than turning it off completely.

I would go with a tube amp. Which one depends on your needs. Do you play bars? Medium sized venues? Madison Square Garden?

For small to medium sized gigs, I'd probably go with a Hot Rod Deluxe.

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III 40W 1x12

Ew - looks like the price went up on these. :? New Price $729.99

For 'Bedroom Levels' I'd probably be looking at one of these:

Fender Hot Rod Series Pro Junior III 15W 1x10

New Price $419.99

To add to this, I Highly recommend you connect to fuse, and edit the MOD and DLY/RVB slots to your liking. You can do this by adjusting your parameters and clicking the “Save Effects” button in the fuse GUI. Then save clean amps to the main preset slots. The VOX AC30 is excellent as is the 65 Deluxe which is now my favorite amp model, and the 65 Twin and 59 Bassman. If you save those to preset slots clean and have your reverbs etc set to your liking in the effect knob slots, you have drastically reduced your need for Computer hookup and now have what you describe. Which is a wonderful little box that has your tone and gain knobs on the top and two knobs to add FX with if you desire. That’s how I have mine setup and its been very handy. I’m from the Tampa Bay area and know how far of a drop that is off the skyway… I know I’d miss the amp very much so give it some time. Its really only as complicated as you want it to be and very easy to simplify it to your needs.

Thank you all. I tried a couple of things and seems better, but I still do not know what I have done or how. Attempting to download something for me was atrocious, I have no clue where it saved or any way to look at it ... user interface is among the worse I have ever seen. It is simply not easy to set up or use with Fuse for a novice like me. And of course I get frustrated and it makes my practice sessions totally worthless because I accomplish nothing!! Fender should understand that an entry level amp probably will be bought by a dummy like me that has no clue what he is doing? Even the instructions suck. Fender should really simplify this.
Anyway, thanks for trying ... let's see if I figure it out, put a sledge hammer to it so I can calm my frustrations or, back to plan A ... the Skyway!!!

Fender should really simplify this

1. Select the amp sound you want (ie turn the knob to select a preset with the appropriate modelled amp, as indicated by the LEDs beside the amp names on the control panel).
2. Turn MOD and DLY/REV all the way to the left to remove unwanted effects.
3. Play with Gain and Tone controls until you get the sound you want.

I'm not sure, given the Mustang is a modelling amp and multi-effects unit, it could be much simpler than that? If you want a simpler "entry level" amp, you perhaps don't want a modelling-and-multi-effects amp? But I'd recommend sticking with the Mustang; in the longer term you'll appreciate all its features. The above three simple steps will get you going until you're ready to try more.

I think the previous posts about using FUSE are all good, correct advice. But at your stage I'd suggest you shouldn't worry about that yet. You can do everything you need on the amp itself, so just focus on that.

I think all agree the written manuals aren't as good as they could be, although most requests are for more advanced, detailed information! For my own curiosity, I've just (re-)read the Mustang 1 "Quick Start Guide" - it essentially covers the same three steps I list above, with a bit more explanation. Which parts don't make sense? It's always hard for non-novices to appreciate the novice point of view.

I actually bought the 100 watt 1x12 M3- even though I don't need anywhere near that much power- for the better control panel. (ok, and the better speaker and fx loop)

Out of the box, they do require some set up by the user before it'll be that plug n' play amp everyone seems to want. As shipped, the presets are mainly to show you some of the sheer variety of things it can do. As for the owner's manual- I firmly believe that if it covered every thing the amp can do, and explained all the features and how-to's in detail, that it would be the size of a Manhattan phone book. It would also be so complicated it would make your eyes cross...

Best advice: look up youtube videos of people demoing these amps, and showing how they did stuff with it. That's what I did, and I finally got it. Now I'm making my own presets, that actually sound GOOD ( a real surprise to me, as I am tech-hopeless)- and I'm still scratching the surface. I gotta say, though, stumbling upon a HOLY CRAP- that sounds awesome!!- sound totally by accident is a big part of the fun for me!

My guitars' individual sounds and personalities definitely shine through, even with a fair amount of fx thrown on.

Or go all old fashioned on us, and trade it for a Frontman or Champion.

That's a shame. But you don't actually say what part you're struggling with? Please give some more info to help us, help you! In particular, which of the three (easy) steps in my previous reply isn't working for you? Perhaps I haven't explained it well and I (or someone else) can do better. What I posted before really is all you have to do to get an excellent 'neutral' amp sound from the Mustang.

NB as you've mentioned VOX AC30 and Bugera V22, just turning the data-wheel on your Mustang (the big, plain dial on the amp) to select one of the "British 60s" presets, should get you most of the way to what you want. Then just turn off MOD and DLY/REV if necessary (by turning those dials all the way to the left).

fwiw Bogiedr, if you did want to put in the time and do a little work, the forum members above are better than any user's manual. If you ask a question every time you get stumped, you will eventually get it all sorted out. It's up to you whether you want to invest that time.

Thank you all for the replies! I have been able to download the Vox 30, 93 Blues Fender and Vox Clean. I am now trying to learn where the amp wants to save the settings and how I can tell the amp where I want the settings ... they still get lost on me :? but at least I think I have figured a few things out. Do not misunderstand, I can see the virtue of the amp, issue is that I have been handed the keys to a Porcshe and all I have driven is a 10 speed bike ... that analogy make sense? I will continue to look at different things in Fuse and see what else I learn. Like I said, at least I did load three things I wanted and the sound pretty good. Progress is being made!!
Thanks all!
