I have a new Mustang Iv2 amp that I am very happy with and I wondered if it's possible to use a passive A/B switching box to switch my guitar between the normal 1/4" Input and the 1/8" Aux input jack ?

If so, the guitar would thus be able to access the regular front end of the Mustang or then switch to a GP-100 multiFX preamp running into the Aux-in jack and then the power section/speaker (or headphone out) of the amp.

Thanks for any information on this !

Mike

Hi Mike,

It sounds like you are hoping to use an A/B switcher with two separate signals. This could work in theory. However, keep in mind that the standard input for your guitar is an instrument input and the Aux in is a line level input. So unless your A/B switcher is one that can output different impedance levels per output and likely do the same on the input side), we would not suggest doing this. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,

Thank you very much for the reply and information !

If I might, one further inquiry which I hope takes into account your description of the Aux input of the Mustang. One use I will be making of my new Mustang I is to use the USB output and then record tracks into the computer with Abelton or Audacity.

In that situtation, I will normally be using the full Mustang I, but in a few situations, since I have several rack-mount preamp/processors that are capable of producing Line-Level outputs, would it then be acceptable to only plug the guitar into the preamp/processor and then into the Mustang's Aux-in jack to be able to use the USB output on the Fender amp for direct recording purposes ?

Thanks for any guidance !

Mike
