Yep, it's me again. :) So, I got a question here. I'm not very happy with the distortion sound on my Fender Mustang. It's kinda muddy, so to speak. I'm wondering, is a real amp and a real distortion pedal any better, or am I doing something wrong with my Fender Mustang? Here is what my current distortion sounds like, doing the Be Somebody chorus (by Thousand Foot Krutch) (Yes, that's two different tracks. One lead, one rhythm)

So, is there a better preset for my Mustang? I did that preset myself, but I'm starting to not like it so much as I did, but it's really the best I know how right now. So, is a distortion pedal better? I have been reading around, and people say it buzzes their amp, and some don't. If I made a perfectly clean preset, and set the output level sort of low, would it not buzz assuming there isn't a better distortion sound for my amp?

(Also, just a little question, I did something stupid and got crazy glue on my electric Guitar body. (Not on the Pick Guard or on anything important, just the body) I've scratched off what I can, but it's really starting to bother me. It's just a few small/medium sized strips of it, no globs or anything. Is there any way to get that off?)

Try experimenting with different cab settings of your preset, in advanced amp settings. Those do make a HUGE difference and that might be what will get you closer to the tone you want.
As for presets uploaded by others - some can sound awesome on your setup, some can sound $@!& despite being awesome on their guitars. The pickups, the wood of your guitar etc. will all affect how the preset sounds.

I'm not sure about the last question what you want to ask though - whether it was stupid? Well yeah, it was. And body is far, far more important than pick-guard, pickguard is imho the least important part of the whole guitar.

when using distortion stomps, start by adjusting amp gain to a very low value. then adjust the OD and guitar volume to your liking. Most of the time making the OD distort and the amp emulation distort sounds bad.

Most of the cabs are really muddy. Use the 414G cab and it will all be better

Glue on the guitar is easy to get off but what kind of finish do you have. wd40 and elboe grease if it's a hard finish. If it's not too bad just a little warm soap water. Lighter fluid coud dull or breck up the finish. Try in a area that won't show too much first.

try downloading a few presets off of fuse and use them as a starting point would be one thing you could try

One of the best "tricks" I've learned to clean up muddy distortion on my mustang is simply to turn down the volume knob on my guitar.

Also type of pickups (single coil or humbuckers) and pickup selection (neck or bridge) will affect the sound.

I've found that the Mustang III sounds ALOT better when you keep all tone controls (on the amp and on distortion effects) below 5. Makes a HUGE difference!
