Hi there!

I have a Mustang II ver.1 and I've NEVER updated its firmware.

When shearching for various "things" I've read a lot of controvercies about updating the Mustangs firmware. Some said that the update improved the quality of the sound, others the contrary.
The question is: what should I do? update or leave it be?

In the other hand, i'm willing to buy a Mustang II ver.2 for a friend. Can you tell the PHISICAL differences between ver.1 and ver.2? the merchant is not quiet trustworthy and I don't want him to sell me a ver.1.

Thanks!
Valentin

The "carbon-tweed" exterior has been changed to a more traditional tolex look (Black Textured Vinyl). Also the text on the control labels is in a different font, with the text moved around a little. As far as I know, those are the only physical differences.

anytime! :D As far as the firmware update, I always run them. I come from a computer background, so I couldn't see it any other way.

I've read a lot of controversies about updating the Mustang's firmware

I have always updated mine to the latest version. I have never had any problems.

I don't think the updates make particularly noticeable changes to the general sound; the updates generally fix issues or add features.

There have been (rare) cases where people's firmware updates have failed part-way for some reason. It's hard to know the exact causes; if that were to happen to you, you can contact Fender TSL directly and they can help you fix it. But that shouldn't put you off; if you just do the whole process properly (and it's really simple), it should work fine.

In cases where people have (successfully) updated the firmware and then find their amp has a problem, it's always seemed to me the underlying problem was something else, not the firmware. But that's just an opinion based on what I've seen reported.

Hi elvantin,

Thanks for your inquiry. And thanks again, as always to our great Fender® Forum member "scott-uk" for his assistance here. As far as running the firmware updates, you should be fine. Once in a while errors can occur with the firmware update process. If this happens, normally running the update once more or moving to a second computer may be needed in rare cases. With that said, it is unlikely that you will encounter this issue. Please let us know if we can assist in any way.

Best Regards,
