I tried a search but got way too many results, at least for my level of patience! Anywho, looking to buy a tablet and note that Apple oddly enough does not include a USB port. I find that very odd, but is there a way to connect an ipad to a Mustang amp so that I can use Fuse to fiddle away the day? I thank ye youngsters kindly for your assistance.

You would need an iPad to USB-mini cable if such a thing exists. NOT an iPad to standard USB because the Mustang amp has the mini jack.

It would be interesting to see future versions of the Mustang series with Bluetooth to connect to these devices along with a free app, but it might not fit with the price point for this series of amps. Thus there have been a few requests for a 'Mustang PRO' series ......

Come to think of it... Fender FUSE would be a very large and power-consuming program to run on a tablet or phone; at least with current tab/phone specs.

The mystery as to why Apple doesn't see a USB port and memory card slot as a completely no-brainer for the iPad is a whole other story!

This is an answer given to that question on the Apple Support Communities site:

USB is not a peer-to-peer system. Each USB device is either a USB master node or a USB slave node. Each USB network must have exactly one master node and that node controls all traffic through the network, which is either from or to the master. You can't have a USB network with two master nodes: they would fight over which was going to run the network. You also can't have a USB network with only slave nodes: a slave node doesn't have sufficient intelligence to run a network it can only obey orders.

These types of node use different chipsets: the chips for master devices have to be very clever so they're big and require a lot of power to run. You generally put them in devices which will spend most of their time plugged in. The chips for slave devices are tiny and require almost no power to run. You generally put them in tiny devices which have to run off of batteries for a long time: phones, cameras, etc.. So you have to decide at design time whether a device is going to be a master or slave, because this has an impact on how big it will be and how much power it will use.

iPads are the second type of thing. You don't want to have to plug them in very often. You want them to be very slim and run very cool. And you need to be able to plug them into a USB master node so you can sync them with your computer. So they have to have a slave chipset in. And therefore you can't plug other USB slave devices into them.

There are Bluetooth pedals and a few other devices that are controllable via apps on an iPad, so it is not farfetched to expect a DSP amp like the Mustang to in future have that connectivity and controllability.

It actualy wouldn't be, and could be easily done right now on the current ipad line up. It would be really cool to see Fender add this to their Mustang amps.

Well that answers that! Thank you all for the help, and it sounds like a tablet is not the device to use with my amp.

Dear LeftyBlues,

Thanks for your inquiry. Fender® FUSE™ is only supported on MACINTOSH and Windows Operating Systems. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Thank YOU Mr. or Mrs. TSL. I think we're going to take the easy route and buy a Surface tablet, that has a USB and will function with my 'stang.

Hey Fender TSL ....

The system requirements for Fender FUSE on MS Operating Systems is currently listed as:

•Windows Vista SP2 / Windows 7 / Windows 8 (plus limited support for XP)

Microsoft Surface tablets run Windows RT, which is an edition of the Windows 8 operating system designed for mobile devices.

I'm wondering if Windows RT is supported for Fender FUSE, and at what display resolutions?

LeftyBlues, I'd hold off on pulling the trigger on that Surface tablet until the above is answered ....

OK, thanks for the quick answer.

So LeftyBlues, you best bet might be a 'convertible laptop' if you are looking for something that can be a tablet, but can still run FUSE. I've never seen one of these in person, but might be worth investigating.

"The Convenience of a Tablet

Who says you can't have it all? Flip it into tablet for quick, convenient access to apps, photos, music and more. Touch, tap and slide your way through the web, or grab the optional Active Pen to write notes and even draw on the screen."

Sony VAIO Flip

They are pricey.
