Hey all,

With so many amp models to choose from on the Mustang its hard to pick a favorite. One amp I keep coming back for more on is the 65 Deluxe Reverb. Doesn’t crunch up as much as some of the others but from what I’ve read, that’s how the real thing behaves. But I just love this amp model. Really takes pedals well too. I got lost in that amp model for about an hour last night.

What amps are you guys gravitating too.

lol I can't decide because all of the clean models are so great. i've been messing around with the 57 ones a lot lately just for fun...

don't forget princeton. fun little thing too. I love to play princeton clean and use real pedals and pretend I have the real thing

but ya 65 deluxe of course is great I find it to be "bassier" than some of the others

Like I mentioned a few weeks, ago, I no longer play attention to presets, editing on fuse or even on the amp.

Before each jam session, I literally pick an amp model and assign stomp/mod/delay pedals I feel like using at that moment, the use the 4 button switch on mode 3 and use it like a "real amp" turning off the effects most of the time but using stomp when I want.

(and now I have the expression pedal. have not even calibrated it yet but I use it as an "override all" stomp/boost because in one mode if you step on it, it simply jumps the gain on the amp model to 10)

something I never used to do....I'm doing things like putting gain on 10 or bass up and realizing it can still sound good

I got a pedal board and put the 2 button footswitch and exp pedal on it, since for now I have room, having only 4 other real pedals, and I'm loving my little rig right now.

would post pic of pedal board but don't have handy and am too lazy

If I’m not mistaken, the Princeton is essentially the Deluxe Reverb with a 10” speaker. The amp gurus on here can probably clarify and correct. I’m in love with the Princeton model as well. Tried out the Deluxe and found it to be very similar but a wee bit fuller. Both take pedal extremely well and are super clean.

I've been dialed in on the Bassman. Ive been really digging it. I use it probably 80% of the time with my Strat. Great stuff!

57 Bassman; goes with Gibson 57 Classic and 57 Classic + pups. I set the Bassman in the power on default position, but I also like the 65 Twin.

I put a Bassman preset I made as default, too. I use that most of the time.

Lately, I've been loving the Brit 60's and 70's models, too.

Like Herwanna, I tend to use actual stomps vs onboard effects. Partly because it's easier for me to twirl real physical knobs, and partly because the fx on the amp are often too detailed. So many tweakable parameters, that I get lost in option paralysis... Not to mention not having a clue what half of them are supposed to do. I pretty much always have one of the reverbs on though.

For me, it depends on where I want to "go to"...

Clean, buttery chimes? Nothing works for me like the 65 Deluxe.

For a bit more grit, it is the Bassman.

If it needs to be totally overdone, I like the American 90s.

Cheers.

Yes the Bassman and 65 Deluxe are quickly becoming my two favorites. I’m using the Bassman with a little bit of drive from the standard mustang OD Stomp for a bluesy “Shine on” second solo type tone with my neck pup, push it with my external OD when I need and want. And using the 65 Deluxe for my cleans and as a base for my other OD’s and Muff. Absolutely Loving it. :D

Seems like the Mustang is the modeling amp preferred by the blues men!

To me it is not easy to choose ONE MODEL.

I need at least ONE for the cleans (deluxe with a spanky glassy setting!) and ONE for the Drive (American 90 since i found it to be more versatile than the Metal 2000 althrough the M2K is far better for certain compartements).

I do love metal as well. Maiden is actually one of my top 3 bands and Dave Murray and Adrian Smith are two of my all-time favorite players. I just gravitate to playing classic rock type stuff when I play… Hallowed Be Thy Name is on my bucket list though. As far as Blues is concerned, I was never even that into blues… I think it’s the tone on this damn thing that has me trying new things

My fave with my American Special Strat is the Bassman.

My fave with the Hellraiser V1 is the Metal 2000 (which I think is a Peavey 5150 clone but I could be wrong!)

Have a few:
1. BassMan
2. JCM 800
3. Super Sonic
4. Metal 2000
5. '65 Deluxe
6. Plexi

The BassMan, JCM, Plexi and '65 Deluxe take pedals nicely... The Super Sonic and Metal 2000 without any outboard dirt pedal action.

I'm a fan of Deluxe Reverb too, such a beautiful clean/semi-overdriven tone, I very like this model. For overdrive or distorted sound I mostly using British 70s (Plexi) or Fender Super Sonic for modern tone.

For me that mostly playing modern rock and punk rock, here's five of my most favourite model:
- British 70s (Plexi)
- Deluxe Reverb
- Super Sonic
- American 90s (Dual-Rectifier - doesn't sounding close to real dual-rectifier, but it's good to my ears), and
- British 80s (JCM 800).

Also for two of Marshall models I using Compressor for more gain.

Yes, the compression on these amps works super well. Thickens it up. I've been using them as a Boost for Solo's. ;)
Both the "Simple Comp (Dyna-Comp)" set to HIGH or MAX level or the "Compressor" opened up to around 8.5 work nicely for this. Puts you up over the mix and adds some "Cream" to the signal.
