Yes! it is true.. i noticed that , particularly with high gain presets with preset volume at high settings , you're generating a pretty high signal level so you can still hear a background sound even with the master volume knob set to minimum values.
in those conditions is not possible to fully silence the speaker output ... but it should be normal.
But if you lower the preset volume , the master volume becomes much more gradual and less jumpy.
There's probably the same behavior if the amplifier gets a pretty high signal from the AUX source ... I had not noticed ..

Ah ok.

This sounds more like it. Indeed, I noticed most presets I use have a level of 7 or greater. If I turn that level down to 3 I can silence the speaker when I turn master to zero. However, any overdrive/ gain/ booster pedal in front of the amp will also cause this effect.

I initially thought my master was not calibrated or something (can not reach zero-Position, ...), but it seems this is a normal for Mustangs...

Ah well, is there a difference in tone if I turn the level knob of a preset down using headphones?

Ignoring headphones for a minute: I was wondering if a low level + high master settings sounds the same as high level setting with low master? Have to do some test when I have the house to myself...

Cheers & thanks for your input,
C

I don't know if it sounds the same: i think it should sound the same because is a digital preamp/power amp section and a real solid state power amp.. is not a valve state.
the "problem" is that with a kind of high gain preset (including a distortion model or external real pedal before an amp model) and Volume preset at high settings (as some default presets) the amplifier becomes difficult to handle as regards the adjustment of the level (by Master Knob) in the real power amp and then outgoing from the speaker.
I would say, it behaves just as wild horse that goes kept at bay, a Mustang precisely, but you have to see if you can tame it :).

Hi frondizi,

Good to hear I'm not alone there and other people have the same experiences...

This is what I'll try: relevel my presets down (3-4). Hope that a) I can control the master volume more gradually and b) that I can really turn it to zero without plugging something into fx loop or headphone jack. Anyway. I'm really happy with my amp and really just learning the ways I can use it :-)

Thanks again,
C
