Hi all.

I'm really enjoying my M3 here. However, the rest of my family is getting annoyed with me fiddling away and so I try to play over my headphones when they are around...

As stated in another thread, the headphone socket is so asking for breakage and the output so low, I started using the XLR out into a headphone preamp. Works great, but I have the problem that I cannot fully silence my amp (turn the volume down to zero). I can only achieve this if I plug something into the headphone jack (which I don't really want as it's really wobbly already).

I also have the problem when I play normally that to me it seems the speaker cannot be dimmed down towards zero output. It kind of jumps in volume and depending on the preset I cannot get a very low output volume... ?!?

Is this something to be expected with this amp or do I have some badly calibrated/ setup volume poti?

Cheers,
C

You should be able to insert. 1/4-inch plug (note: just the plug!) into the Efx return to completely mute the power amp.

You can also try turning down the volume on your presets. Doing this makes the master volume much less "jumpy".

Playing through headphones sucks. Your family needs to treat you with the respect you deserve as the man of the house, and they should thank their lucky stars that all you want to do every night is play your guitar as opposed to being out drinking and whoring.

When your wife earns as much money or gives even 40% as much to the relationship as you do, then she can tell you how loud to play your amp.

Hi all

Well, I do use the fx loop for a looper, so this won't fly.

I will try the lowering the level idea to tame the Master knob. I have to equalize levels of my presets anyways as they are all way different. That - appart from the flimsy plugs - is my only real complaint with this amp a.t.m.

Regarding wife and being boss in the house:
She is actually bringing in her share of our income 8)
But playing over headphones does indeed suck. I need to find me some proper man cave to turn up the volume!!!

Can you just plug a dry headphone plug into the headphone jack to silence the power amp?

Sure,

that's what I'm doing at the moment. However, one reason I'm now using xlr->headphone-amp->headphone was that the damn jacks are so bad on the Mustang (wobbly, cheap plastic) and that the sound is rel. poor...

I'd like a solution where I don't constantly have to plug/ unplug the headphone jack.

(question from a v1 owner)

Does the master volume also control the XLR level? I'd assumed that as the XLR is a line-out, it wouldn't be affected by the master volume knob, which is for the power amp.

The fact that no-one's suggested simply turning master volume down to zero makes me think that doing so would also reduce the XLR output to zero? That seems wrong to me...

The master volume does not control the xlr output there is a separate control in the utilities menu to adjust the xlr output volume...

... so the obvious question is, why not adjust the xlr output volume as needed, and turn the Master volume all the way off (0)?

Well yes, exactly, hence my previous post. Sometimes the answer is too obvious!

Hi guys.

Not sure that I follow you here. I do have the master know all the way to the left and still get output from the speaker. The xlr out level I control on my headphone preamp (art powermix3).

Am I missing something here?

Hi
I have noticed on my amp that with master volume completely off you can here the backing music etc through the aux, but it is very quiet and muffled ( is that what you mean?)
If so try turning the music input going into the aux down from the device that the music is coming from?
