I have the same question. I have the original crybaby and it sounds great through my MIII IMO. I also just got the exp pedal and so far I hate it and might return it.

I need to figure out whether I will ever use the pitch shifter thing.

Using a CryBaby in front of my Mustang III (plugged into the "Input" jack). Responds well... nice and pukey. If you want to go wah pedal... I'd stick WITH a wah pedal. These amps take them well ;)

I bought the EXP and said to myself I'd just get a Crybaby as well, sort of a self-bday-present, if the EXP doesn't sound good as a wah, and just use the EXP as a volume pedal or as any other parameter pedal.. But after a month or so, I haven't bought the Crybaby and I have no intentions to do it :D
The other guitarist in my band bought the Crybaby at the same time - to put it in front of his M3 and, tone-wise, the difference is almost non-existant. You certainly won't hear it in a live situation if you spend some time tweaking the preset to your liking ;)

I was in your situation, gone with the EXP and don't regret it - cheaper, more versatile and equally-good sounding :) The only limitation is that the EXP can only be used with Mustangs, whereas the Crybaby can be used with any amp. When I save up enough $$ to upgrade to a tube amp, I'll be buying Mustang Floor anyway (to keep all the benefits of Mustangs) and the EXP pedal can be linked to it as well.

Can you guys share your Wah settings (EXP-1 settings, too)? Cause I for the live of me cannot get a decent wah tone with my EXP-1. Use it for all kind of other effects, no problem, but for me it's not really working as a Wah replacement...

Maybe I'm just not using the right settings for toe/ heel position?!?

Cheers,
C

It will vary based on the guitar you're using.. For my Fender Strat Highway 1 (single coil mags) I use a supersonic amp model, gain 5.0, vol 7.0, treb 6,4, mid 6,7, bass 6,4, no reverb with a SS112 cab. I use Pedal Wah, Mix 10.0, hi Q off and change frequency with EXP from 1.0 to 9.5, heel is set otherwise at 1.0 and toe at 10.0.

For my Gibson LP, that has 2 humbuckers in it, I also use supersocnic model, gain at 10.0, vol 6.7, other stuff same as for my Fender, this one has a pedal wah, mix 5.8, Hi Q on and other stuff the same.. I like that tone for adding a subtle wah to stairway to heaven solo, for instance :)

Just bought the EXP pedal, and I still have to set it up yet. I'm moving house, and my wife packed my Cry Baby away, so I thought I'd try one of these bad boys seeing as I now have the Mustang III. Reports when I have set it up. :)
