The band I'm playing in plays a pretty eclectic variety of cover and original songs. I have a mustang floor and it's great for this kind of thing. I love being able to have a different preset for each song ready to go with the tone required.

The one issue I have been running into is that I've found it pretty difficult to normalize my preset volumes so that my volume level is consistent when playing live. I've found that there can be big differences when I set things up at home volume levels, from when I play live. (basically most of my presets sound about the same volume at home, but turned up, this is not the case.)

Any tips on how to do this better? I've considered using ableton as a sort of VU meter to judge output levels - would this work? Not sure I could get fine tuned enough that way though.

It really would be great to have some sort of tool within fuse to do this.

same here, the only advice I could give is to set up separate banks of presets for home and for gigs. I don't know of any easy way of doing it.

guys, trying to understand the issue to offer some help.

So in essence you say that with some presets, if you listen to them thru headphones lets say they sound the same perceived volume but if you listen thru monitors or a PA they sound different perceived volumes? Or do you use a monitor at home and a PA at your gig site?

If I got that wrong please clarify.

no it's the same as with anything else (not just this amp). If I set my clean, dirty, and lead presets to volume levels that make sense for playing around at home, and then take the amp to a gig (for example) I have to re-adjust the preset volumes so they work well in a band environment.

More than anything else, I usually have to give my lead preset a little volume boost to get up over the volume of a band. At home, even playing over a recording, I don't seem to need quite as much volume for the leads.

Now i get it :)

I think your problem is double.
-One has to do with the difference in acoustics in your basement vs the gig place. And when I say acoustics is in a broad term. Frequency response and absorption will not be the same at home vs a bigger venue with big PA speakers and/or any EQ the sound guy may be adding to the PA itself
-The second has to do with frequency overlapping with the otter members of the band. Is rather evident in the case of metal players, tones that sound great playing alone are muddy and boomy when playing with the band.

The solution I have found myself with the floor is the following:
-make sure all your presets sound at the same perceived volume when plain thru headphones connected to the floor (try big phones, otherwise a big chunk of the bass tones will not be present
-I configured the Floor output as mono, with different voicings thru each channel
-On the left channel (used at home) I selected "combo amp" and lowered the bass EQ voicing level to 60% (each output has different treble/bass adjustments)
-On the right channel (at gig place) I selected "PA + bass" and left bass and treble at 100%
-This alone corrects most of the differences in my case (your settings will be different based on the home amp you use and the gig accoustics/PA EQ your sound man applies, but when you have it fine tuned, no need to worry ever again.

As a last resort, particularly when I'm trying new presets and I'm not sure, I use the floor pedal in volume mode for quick access while playing. Make sure the volume calibration is not 0-100% but more like 50-100% otherwise the pedal gets too sensitive.

Yeah, my issue was more of with my presets sounding equal at low volumes on my amp (Bugera V22) at home, they aren't as equal as I thought, when I turn the amp up to play live. I hadn't thought of using headphones to check levels, that might reveal differences that my amp can't at such low volumes.

I definitely need to change my volume pedal settings. I think it's at 0-100% so small moves make a big difference.

I just play to some basic backing tracks and adjust the volumes as close as possible. It is true about the acoustics at different places making the volume different. I just have my amp close by when playing at the gigs and adjust the gain or volume, not master volume as that will not be remembered when you hit the save button. People forget that any movement of the control knobs minus the "master Volume" knob will light up the "save" button. Only time I get into the deep editing is when I'm home and setting up my initial sounds.
