I ordered my new M3 v2. :P :P :P :P :P Getting a jump on things: will it come immediately needing updated firmware like the v1 did in 2011? I don't see any firmware sticky links at the top.

I'm talking about firmware to make the amp perfect. I don't care about FUSE, at all. I'm talking about the amp's operation.

(Like for v1, originally the foot pedal had a brief silent period between switching settings, and a firmware update fixed that.)

I don't see any links for new firmware at the top here. ???

Hmmm. My computer is not even up-to-date enough to deal with the new Fuse.

I have never liked Mustang for the whiz-bang stuff; I just want good sounding basic models and I adjust settings on the amp like a "real" amp. But if it comes needing some kind of fix with an immediate update, that might be bad. (Like I only needed the updated firmware on my v1 because it was a good fix on the footswitch hesitation; I don't think I ever even put the latest latest on that amp because it works fine with whatever's on it.)

I don't need or want a new $1,000 computer. If I need that I'll get the $1,000 amp instead.

I'm not quite sure I follow. You don't like the whiz bang stuff so why upgrade to V2? That's exactly what the V2 offers, more whiz and bang. Both amps are modeling and highly based on a computer interface or update type functions so what answer other than a link to a download were you expecting? I'd say of you don't need any more whiz and bang from the stock M3 V2 then eff the firmware update and just do what you've been doing. I totally get your philosophy of using the basic amps, I do the same and add external pedals so I can reduce the need for fuse but it sounds to me like you've tossed all the debate on whether or not to go for a princeton and went for more whiz and bang even though you are anti whiz and bang.

Embrace the whiz and bang

You don't need the firmware update immediately, and possibly not at all. The amp will work fine with the original 2.0 firmware. Previous topics discuss what changed in the 2.1 firmware and there is a Fender support article about it. There are only two changes in 2.1 that I'm aware of (and that Fender publicise): the fx-loop position is made configurable; the ’57 Champ and 4x12V cab sims have been tweaked. If those aren't critical to you, and from your description of your use of the amp it sounds like they wouldn't be, then you're fine with the out-of-the-box firmware, at least for the time being.

I don't have $ for a new computer. not entirely accurate. yes I'm happy outside of fuse or updates AFTER the amp has been configured as best as possible. with v1 that happened after about the 2nd update, that got rid of a major flaw, the hesitation with footswitch changing.

that's how it usually is....even buying a new amp now they will not have loaded latest on it.

all I care about is the basic models sounding as real as possible, so I need updates if that does anything re: that and apparently it does re: champ model

typing really fast at work not sure if you get what I'm saying.

well $@!& part of that is critical. if they are improving the sound of a model. what I care about is having each basic model sound as close to the real thing as possible.

so if they tweaked 57 champ to sound better, I need the update.

seems like update needs newer IE that my old stupid computer can't even run.

but I can bring amp to work and use work computer to update stuff I guess

also you put the EXP pedal in the 4-button switch input????? if there is no other option that is assinine!! so one must choose between using 4 button switch and exp pedal but can't use both at same time?????

(I ordered exp pedal too even though I have a real crybaby because I thought wah tone might slightly vary and also the other stuff it can do like pitch shifter...as is have not even used those effects because never had fender's exp pedal)

No, you use them in line.

The EXP-1 connects directly to the 4 button footswitch input on the Mustang III, IV, V, and to the EXP-1/MS-4 input on the Mustang Floor. It also contains a pass-through jack that allows you to daisy chain the MS-4 4 button footswitch. This aids in reducing the clutter normally associated with multiple pedal in your setup.

it's old and runs XP. don't have $1,000 to buy new computer due to ex wife and so many other things I can buy with $1,000, like another good guitar or amp. :P

seems like the new mustang updates require VISTA or above?

You're actually better off with an older computer for running FUSE. It doesn't work right with the high DPI displays in newer laptops, among other things.
Unless it's so old that it can't run Windows 7, you're probably better off buying a copy of Windows 7.

FWIW I'm still running FUSE on (no longer supported) XP. Works fine.

Microsoft; however, will be ending support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. That does not mean you won't be able to update a new installation of Windows XP. It just means there won't be any new security patches released for XP after that date.

If you kept the computer off the Internet after April 8, 2014, there's no reason it wouldn't be a secure and viable option for running FUSE even after that date.

Ok the problem is fuse (which I don't care about ) seems to be bundled with the firmware update (which I need ). I need latest firmware on my amp. I don't need fuse at all.
