Anyone have this issue? I'm having it on both of my electrics, one running 10s and the other 11s. It'll pick up the other strings fine, but the high e (1st string) I really have to work it to get it to pick it up. No problems when in amp mode, just the tuner.

One thing that sometimes help electronic tuners 'lock' onto the correct string: mute all the other strings so that only the top E vibrates.

And/or: is the pickup not getting as strong a signal from that string? Assuming the pickup isn't faulty, might be worth adjusting it to bring it nearer the string(s).

I cant tune my lowest string on my 4-stringed bass :( which is kind of irritating cause all my guitars att perfectly tuned to the mustang amp, so I have to double check the guitars tuning in guitar rig (software), and after that tune the bass after it in guitar rig (different tuners don't tune the same, one thing I have noticed, when changing between mustangs tuner, mark bass tuner and guitar rigs tuner they show different values)

What I usually do is tune one (or two) strings from the 'reference' tuner (whether that's the Mustang or something else), then use harmonics etc to tune the remaining strings from each other. It ensures everything is consistent, although I appreciate is hard to do if you want to tune with the amp muted and the environment is too loud to hear the unamplified strings.

this happens with some pickup/guitar-bodies, some on high strings and some in low strings

try one or more of the following:
-select bridge pickup
-put guitar volume to max
-put pickup tone to max

Try tuning using the 12th fret harmonics on each string.

I get best results using the neck pickup when using the tuner

+1
For the most accurate results, I use a tuning fork against the harmonics on the A string, then tune the rest by ear.

The tuner in practice amps seem to all be made by the same company - I've tried five amps from three different major amp brands, and they all behave the exact same way, and suck in the same way. I'm convinced there's a Chinese company making them for the major brands, for a pittance. And they get exactly what they pay for.

If I have to use a tuner, I use one with a real needle, so I can see how much it's off, and how it varies depending on how hard the string is struck. I have tried Peterson strobe tuners, but they have the huge disadvantage of needing a second or more to settle, so you don't really tune the struck string, but the sustain. That's not good, in my opinion.

Fork > analog tuner > Peterson strobe > digital tuner > cheap Chinese LED tuner in amps

I can't tune any strings on a bass with a M4. It doesn't pick them up, probably because their frequency is too low or something.
