Hi all
I have just bought a Mustang 1 v2.
I have connected the amp to my comp via the headphone Jack (amp headphone to external Mic in jack on comp). The Internal mic is disabled.
My problem is, when trying to record (Using Audacity) I am getting terrific lag between playing the notes and the notes being recorded.
I have tried every input setting that I can find in Audacity but none make any difference to the Lag issue.
There is no problem with the comp "hearing" the amp or with playing back the recording except for the lag issue. ( And it is Major Lag!)
I cannot see any other way of connecting the amp to record except by using the Mic and recording from the room.
I have Windows 7 O.S if that helps.
Any ideas / suggestions etc. would be much appreciated.
Is it possible to record using the Fuse software?
Fuse is new to me so maybe I'm missing something there?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

I never got that to work. I like to record the real sound of the amp in air the old fashioned way. I have a zoom Q3 to record live but I want to get an 8-track or whatever...mic it up.

I found abelton to be a mess.

but perhaps you're a pro and I sound like an idiot and it's only the mustang you are new to?

I didn't have time to waste learning that software when I could be practicing my playing.

Normal way is to record via the mini Usb socket on the amp, direct to your computer.
Then you can hear the sound out of the amp speaker (or headphone) and not via the PC - no latency as you don't hear what is being recorded!

I've not tried via headphone socket although I have recorded live into a mic and Zoom 8 track, but that's beside the point.

That will work if its the first thing you're laying down and without a click, backing track or the like. As soon as you want to add a layer its out the window. There is a monitor input or something to that effect in the transport menu. Did you try toggling that? I'm a mac user and was experimenting with garage band but I will try out audacity asap to see if I can assist. The best solution is an external I/O interface but you should be able to get this to work

+1, try it and see if it works better for what you want to do

Question: are you using the ASIO driver or the Windows audio driver? The latter will have a lot more lag.

(If your answer is 'I don't know' that probably means you're using the Windows audio driver that gets installed when you install FUSE. ASIO is a separate installation. Search the Fender support website for ASIO and you'll find details of the download, plus articles, videos and screenshots for how to set it all up).

Good point on the ASIO Driver especially if you are using the on board audio input on your computer.

Indeed as mentioned above the USB out of the Mustang is great for recording as well. Just make sure that you have your audio settings to match which I believe on the mustang is 16-Bit/44.1KHz otherwise you might get clicks and pops. if you are just laying down a basic track you certainly can just plug your phones in to the amp and strum away. I would just do a test record to confirm everything is working. Rule of thumb is you want to monitor the recorder and not the source but if you can’t get around the Latency and aren’t getting too complex with your tracking its fine. There are lots of inexpensive I/O devices out there for under $100 if you did decide to get a little fancy. The M-Audio boxes are a little pricier but sometimes come with Protools LE software. Protools is great and IMO a lot more intuitive than the other stuff I’ve tried. I suppose it should be for the extra cost.

Another thing you might try is if you are on Windows 7, you can go to system properties and in the Advanced System Properties under Performance set windows to “Adust to best Performance” this is a common tweak we do on Edit systems to help save system resources and increase performance.

Keep us posted.

Cheers

To record with the microphone you need an additional audio interface. As said there are economic captainc from Berinher Guitar Link USB 25 $ or more cheaper to more expensive depending on your possibilities.
You all better recommended you use the USB cable to the computer you will not have this form delay
Using Asio driver with Windows 7 does not work well. I love my Mac :D
You have two options or use the USB to your Fender Mustang or incorporate another audio interface.
Using the USB there will be no external noise

You can adjust for latency in audacity in the Preferences - Recording settings page.
