Was looking at getting another amp to replace my Peavey 112. Saw the mustang on sale for 299 at Sweetwater. Ordered it Fri morning and got it Sat morning. Wanted to use it for the Sat night gig. Went through the preset sounds and did not care for them at all. So I made a clean channel from the Fender twin and added a bit of chorus and slight delay and just a touch of reverb. Sweet! very clean sound, very clean. Then went and got channel 2 set up for some good distortion. I used the metal 2000 with the gain about the 1 oclock position. Added a bit of delay and a touch of reverb. Went to the gig that night and it took maybe 6 songs to get the sounds I want. very easy to make adjustments on the fly and save. We do classic rock and up to date country stuff. I had some really nice compliments on my new sound compared with want I used before. Oh, I use a 2012 American Strat with the fat 50's pickups. I'll be riding this set up for a long time to come.

Enjoy! Despite the V2, the V1 is still a great amp and the discounted clearance prices are phenomenal! Can you even name another 150-watt stereo 212 twin combo with that many features and that good of a Fender sound for anywhere close to $300? 8)

Congrats on the new amp. I love how easy these amps are to use in live playing situations. Makes life a lot easier when you can control volumes levels, OD, Dist etc... on the fly... and even if the amp needs to be turned down... you don't lose anything.
Enjoy your new rig!

How do you control distortion on the fly? To go from distort to clean (or clean to distort), I have to switch to a different model, and then I lose all the other parameters I had, and have to set them again one by one. Unless I did that before I started playing, in which case it's hardly live adjustment.

I find it one of the least live friendly amps out there, because it's all based on presets, and presets, by nature, have to be pre-set. The Mustangs sound great for solid state, have a great price point, and have tonnes of effects, but be realistic - you have to fiddle with them far more than most other amps. Sometimes using both hands and glasses.

Maybe this amp's not for you. Personally, for me the presets are a huge plus in the ease of using these amplifiers. I incorporate the 4 button footswitch to go between the settings I need. It's great to be able to go between diff amp models mid song... or even mid lead.
Also like the old school way you can use the stomps like a real stomp boxes... the 4 button footswitch allows that functionality. If you have a III but don't have the 4 button.. go ahead and get one. You'll be happy that you did.

When I first got my III It was a bit weird to adjust to it. Have played tube amps since forever ago. After spending a little time with it... noodling thru the effects... scoping all the parameters of the amp models... getting an understanding of how the amp operates... it became quite intuitive to use it.

There is a "learning curve" to get a handle on the Mustang amps. It's worth the effort. If you understand how to work a tube amp... you'll have no prob working a Mustang.. so long as you take the time to learn how to ride it.

It is a pre-set driven amp as opposed to physical effect knobs to be sure... but I think it sounds better than Line 6 Spider, Peavey Vypyr or Roland Cube.

When I want to swap around effects on the fly, I turn the preset knob backward - the last presets of the 100 factory presets are just the basic amp models (12 of them for V1, 17 for V2.) I select my desired amp and it is as if I have the amp with no effects attached. The modeled basic amp parameters are adjusted by the physical knobs on the Mustang. Then I can add in whatever stomp and line effects I want from there pretty quickly. So, say, adding a Ibanez Tubescreamer to a '59 Bassman just requires me to hit the stomp button while on the preset for basic 59 Bassman; select the Green Screamer from the list; adjust the Screamer to the parameters I want and I'm done. Effect can be switched on and off via the included 4-button footswitch (Mustang IV and V) during live performance and with the addition of the EXP-1 pedal I can also adjust the parameters of the effect or adjust master volume.

If I want less distortion in the middle of a gig, I'll either turn down the GAIN, or choose a different preset.

Personally, in a live situation, I only adjust the 'real' knobs:

GAIN, VOLUME, TREBLE, MIDDLE, BASS, REVERB, MASTER

Does that sound limiting? What knobs are on the front of a real Deluxe Reverb?

VOLUME, TREBLE, BASS, REVERB, SPEED, INTENSITY

By "on the fly". I have my preset setup as close as I can get to my satisfaction. Then when I get to the gig and start playing I don't need to get into the setup screen. I just make fine adjustments with the physical knobs. Also as you turn anyone except the "master" volume the red save button will light up. You just push that twice and the current setting is saved. No need to go into the editing screen at all.

Frank.

this. the real knobs work like a "real" amp.... I never go on fuse. it's all doable on the amp unless you want to mess with putting effects before or after power amp, which IMO is unnecessary.

I mainly use the basic amp as a "real" amp anyway and add overdrive or fuzz or delay sometimes chorus just like all the people using tube amps.

unless I kick on 90s nirvana tone and knock people over if I put master volume above 4 lzozlzozlzozlzozlzozzz.

I'm pretty sure my M4 is a health hazard to anyone with a pacemaker standing within 100 feet of it if I play the tone I had the other day....overdrive on a twin amp with some low end, master on 5 ...... was BOOOOOOMING and hard hitting like being at a major concert....feel the bass hitting your chest booming

FUSE is great if you really want to "look under the hood" so to speak. I just tinker around when I'm on FUSE. 8)

This goes out to all the ladies who once promised their ex-boyfriend 36 consecutive days of BJs (her term, not mine) in a row and didn't fulfill the promise, but made it all the way to 24. Nice work, baby! No wonder you're so fun.

I bit on the $299 price drop too. I already have the v1 M-III and I love it. But at that price, I had to do it.

The M-IV is really a lot more bang for the buck,.. it's 5x the amp the M-III is.
It roars...

Not sure I get the comments about presets and hard to use.

I think the preset config along with the dual footswtich control make this one of the most versatile, portable, easy to move/setup rigs on the planet.

I've had the Vox and Line 6 amp modelers, not even close.

One of the things I like most about my M4 is how responsive it is to the Vol. Knob on My GUITAR. More so than any other amp I've owned. And in 40+ yrs I've had some real nice one's. Original Fender Bandmaster's, Deluxe Reverbs, Twins, and Dual Showman's, Not to mention Vox, Musicman, Sunn, and numerous others. Yes I wish I still had a lot of them but more for their Value than anything else, except that Deluxe Reverb it was exceptional.
