When I first got my Mustang III (vI) last Christmas, I wasn't impressed. I didn't think the presets at first really captured the amps they supposedly model; dialing it in was tricky at best; I was pretty frustrated.

What a difference 10 months can make. At home, over time the Mustang has become probably my favorite go-to amp.

It's loud and spacious. The reverbs and delays have opened new avenues for me in terms of creativity. And the dirt is fun. (And did I mention loud? )

The speaker is well broken in. I can turn it on any time without worrying about tubes or heat. The MIII never fails me.

No, I haven't gotten rid of my Princeton, my Blues Jr. (first-iteration) or my Marshall tube amps, and I don't plan to. No, I don't really think a Class D 1X12 combo necessarily sounds like a Twin or a Bassman. That's not the point.

The Mustang still sounds great. It's a fun amp that gives me the tools I need as a guitar player. Nice job, Fender.

Glad you like it!
Mine has gone to the bedroom, and may go to the basement soon. Too much fiddling for me, and very susceptible to hum (the bean counter who said "no, we don't need a 10 cent ferrite bead on the USB cable" needs a new job), and bad depreciation. When new Mustang IVs v1s have dropped from $699 to $299, you can imagine what the second hand value is like.

But some love theirs, and that's good. Hope you make good music on it :D

I have nothing against solid state amps, but I think Fender needs to focus on quality and ease of use, not features and penny pinching.

I too noticed that speaker break-in matters, just like with a "real" amp.

I love my M4 v1.

By the way, be fair. Real street price was $425 even in 2011. The $299 price now is ridiculous. That is literally the most amp-per-dollar anyone can get anywhere in the world. The thing is a beast amp that has good enough tones (and a lot of them) that should be good enough for every guitar player in the world other than these:

1. John Mayer
2. Eric Clapton

M4 v1 is absolutely good enough for every single gigging guitarist in the world who is gigging in clubs and bars or smalltime fairs where the "audience" doesn't care all that much.

I went for the beast: A Mustang V V2 head and a barely used Mustang V V1 412 cab; after using a Mustang Floor through a cheap amp for a year. Difference is staggering to say the least!

I am in the St. Louis metro area and probably check Craigslist at least 3 times a week out of impulse. I have to say I do not see a lot of Mustang amps on our local CL. LOTS of Line 6 Spiders... but only occasionally a Mustang. Those that do pop up infrequently are always the V1s and are usually the MIs and MIIs.

So I don't doubt the depreciation but; but it seems few owners are letting them go anyway. They are stellar amps for those that can live without tubes and a mess of analog stomps at their feet!

After the learning curve in getting to know these amps... I love my III. Not cheap amps. Best investment made for a practical, Gig worthy amp. The versatility is amazing and the amp models are great.

Have Gigged with mine and also using it for band rehearsals. The other Guitarist in the band is going thru a vintage Sunn 100 watt tube head pushing a 2x12 cab. Powerful LOUD guitar rig. And very nice sound. Has a decent pedal board... OD's Dist., Echo. etc...
We're doing lots of dual guitar harmony lines a for a lot of our tunes.

Have my III on an amp stand next to his rig. The tone, volume and power of my Mustang is right up there with his. Have the Master Volume @ apprx. 4 1/2. Using the Compressors in the amp to boost me over the top for leads and playing harmony lines with the other Guitarist. This amp is holding it's own. Sounds like the amp's it's modeling as well. Using the Marshall's (plexi & jcm through 4x12 cabs) as well as the Bassman and Super Sonic (2x12 and 4x12 cabs). Run an MXR Classic OD and a CryBaby into the front. Have Delays, Verbs, Vibro, stomps etc... all set in the diff models I use in the amp. Very user friendly amp. Responds like a tube amp, plays and sounds like one too.

Can't go wrong with one if you take a little time to learn it. Used tube amps for about 30 years. I Love this amp. Asked me 10-15 years ago if I would ever use a ss over a tube amp and I would have def said NO. Never... until these came out. Easier to use... light... small... big difference from the tube amps I used to use... heavy... big... difficult to set at volumes in smaller places...
It's also awesome that these amps are as affordable as they are right now. Nice to have a new Gig worthy amp for under 500 beans. And yes, the speaker is breaking in super nice ;)
