mmh.. as you know i'm Italian so i can't know all Pink lyirics by heart.. and sometimes i have to use google to match lyrics with a song..
Julia Dream for what i know is on "Relics" and "Masters of Rock" (a collection i think released just in Europe in LP and cassette , no cd) .. i don't know what other collection could include it.
the second mentioned is Embryo (google help... :-) ) .. i like so much that song also because it has the first example of "seagull" guitar tone..

anyway...
the interrogation continues ... but as i see it is a refresher friendly :-) (let's continue off topic, until Fender does not threaten us that we will be kicked out LOL)
let's use a different aproach...

in which song Roger (with P.F.) shouted something in Italian, Spanish and French?
in which of his soloist works you hear burping and "little winds" inside the toilet bowl? :-)
in which of another soloist work Eric Clapton played lead guitar ?
in which track Roger tries to imitate the accents of a Scotchman? (apparently with poor results)
and... in which song of Paul Mc Cartney/Wings , David played the lead guitar?

>> in which track Roger tries to imitate the accents of a Scotchman? (apparently with poor results)

are you sure ? I think they got someone in to do that ?
and no I don't mean "there is no dsotm really", I mean "fain fain teh fiery haorde that was fallin aroouund ba fate" (or something like that)

>> I know "little winds!" (good phrase!) I have it on vinyl (hummock and bump)

Google is cheating!
see- I'm not making my answers too obvious so others can play !

but I don't know 1,3 and 5

here's one for you: where does Roger say "that was pretty avant garde wasn't it"
(almost a trick question.. it's hard to hear)

ah, Oberon Miranda and Titania - Neptune, Titan, stars can frighten- it was Syd's work that got them started !

Hi Mark,
EDIT : i have to apologize to everyone for not having noticed your note in which you explaining it to me does not make clear the answers in such a way the other can play..
Now i have removed the solutions but someone might have already read.
from now on we will do so if the game continues.

the questions I have asked in the last post are things that I know by heart without looking at google or books ... I read a lot when I was at the times of high school :-)
Not only Pink Floyd, but other artists that interest me and music in general / sound techniques, etc.. stay in memory with a remarkable ease.

I repeat, however, we do not become a competition, but at most an exchange of knowledge ..

the anecdote of imitation of the Scottish ... is exactly that second passage you said!
, I must have read on an Italian edition of a book with all the lyrics with its translation into Italian and explanations about the meaning, topics, written by a journalist who has a culture very wide, on some British bands (Pink and Rolling Stones mainly) , Christian Diemoz, and is very accurate in reporting the information ... but in that case he realized that Roger was talking about the "Picts" an ancient people lived in Scotland around the '500, and an anecdote related to them.
EDIT 2: I have found again the explanation on the book .. actually the thing is a little bit different :
is a bloody episode of mid-500, narrated by the mouth of a Pict , belonging to an ancient Scottish people, the Picts (dubbed that way by the Romans because they had practice before battles to paint their bodies with images of war. "Pitti" was italian contraction of "dipinti"="pictures" ) ..
Mary Stuart reigned at that time and was supported by the Catholics ... the episode, tells of one of the clashes, a face-to-face between Catholics and Protestants .. with bloody outcome precisely.
but it seems that Waters would not make the connection clear.

While .. to your question I can not answer ... I seem to remember something, perhaps on Live at Pompeii interviews or "the making of dark side" but I'm not at all sure..
and if we go on the field of citations it becomes much more hard and a little bit paranoid :-) we can not know everything.

Hey Frondizi , I always wondered where that Pict thing came from..
(we get taught about Picts in our school days in the UK, hairy savages wielding haggises)
Slight muddle on date perhaps, or by '500 you mean 1500?
(Pict tribes were around Roman times to middle ages - Mary Stuart was year 1500)

But I dont think it's Roger's voice - at the very end, if you listen on headphones, you can hear him say 'thank you'. I bet that didn't make it onto CD/mp3, it's on the vinyl though.
Also the Pict thing ends with "and the wind cried mary".. so they took liberties

I'll give the answer for "that was pretty avant garde" - when I was at school and a big PF nerd, back in the days of reel to reel tape decks, my buddy and I wanted to see how Rog had put 'Several species' together...
So we taped it and then played it back at quarter speed/half speed/ backwards..
And there's a high pitched bit, just before the Pict starts his speech.. so now you know where to listen it's not so hard to hear.
Nothing backwards though.

Hi Mark,
thanks for the solution. I'll listen to that passage by an audio editor software.

Yes, i meant 1500 but, in a surreal way, this Pict (maybe his spirit?) is to tell a story of many centuries later ..
in practice according to this version, Waters spreads clues in the title (Pict) or by the imitation of a Scottish accent and narrating an episode set in Scotland for a period totally disconnected from the era in which he lived the Pict.
In fact did not have to be clear to listener unless he did some research and had a good literary / historical culture (on my opinion)
if we think about it even a professor of literature such as Mark Knopfler apparently was not interested to write lyrics so special and cultured as he often did Waters :-)

Returning to the "pict", the book also says that many have long thought it could not be Roger in that monologue ..
there were those who thought it was Ron Geesin to give the voice on some sounds of furry animals because they had collaborated with him on "The Body" soundtrack and because there is an "irresistible" parody ot that track by Ron "To Roger Waters Wherever you are" (there is also on youtube) but Ron has always categorically denied.

i always believed he was Roger.. he has a particular tone of voice.
according the book the "thank you" at the end is more likely to the patient listener rather than being part of narration.

Morning Fonzi

I won't google these since yes that's cheating but some really good ones. I think you got up early enough LOL

I'm not amiliar with the toilet and burping effects but I have his main 3 solo albums so I'll deduce its off the body by process of elimination

Eric Clapton played on Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking and frankly I wish he hadn't. He's great but it just didn't work. Jeff Becks work on Amused to death is far superior and I almost don't even miss Gilmour on that one. Great Album

Gilmour did quite a bit with McCartney since the mid 80s and off and on I believe so without googling that's about the best answer I can give.

I'd guess he's yelling in italian, French and Spanish somewhere on the Final Cut but can't think where now. Been a while since I've listened to that one

I'm certain that's Waters in Several Species ... Spewing out Galic in his best Scottish accent playing the part of the Pict. I would imagine that can be easily confirmed

And my question,

What non member of Pink Floyd sued them and actually won thus receiving royalties and writing credits on subsequent pressings of DSOM after originally just being paid a session musician wage

And what was the song?

Cheers.

Hi,

Did not know it .. however, the legal issues do not interest me much, the only thing that remained in my mind of this type is when Gilmour took a long legal battle against Waters to continue to use the name of Pink Floyd, with Mason and Wright. beginning a new phase with "A Momentary Lapse or reason"

Nevertheless I must admit that I am curious to know why that session musician could make that demand so audacious after working for them for so little time ... what evidence had in his hands?
So.. I pass the ball to someone else who may know and want to play.

by the way... Is there an album that you decided not to buy? I have one: "ça ira" of Roger Waters: the father of a friend of mine gave a copy on blank CDs but I never appreciated that theatrical work ... perhaps just listen to it was not enough .. you had to see it in any dvd or theater with the actors who play.

Paul Mc Cartney/Wings with Gilmour on guitar, first two verses:
I can' wait another day
until i call you
you've only got my heart on a string
and everything is flutter

but another lonely night
might take forever
we've only got each other to blame
it's all the same to me love
......
......

Many of us certainly know that ballad , just do not know that there was Gilmour on guitar.

Me I bought nothing after DSOTM - of course I heard up to the Wall (nothing since apart from what I might hear on the radio) but for me it was the soundscapes of Meddle and earlier that I loved ! Saw them 5 times too.

I'm guessing the person who sued was the lady vocalist - definitely worth more than a session fee. (she was interviewed in a recent tv documentary I saw about DSOTM, but suing wasn't mentioned)

Who? Clare Torry? so the song would be The Great Gig in the Sky?
she sang also in some record of Alan Parsons.. i'm also a big fan of Alan & Co. He is a creative sound engineer. My reference.
I wonder as have would been DSODM if there had not been the magic hand of Alan ... even the early master versions of the tracks was already almost perfect.

A lot of people might also not know that the children used for singing Another Brick in The Wall II sued Pink Floyd (after having grown up) for not being paid royalties despite being on half of the song. I think they settled it outside of courts, but Pink Floyd paid them quite a lot of money. It was not the idea of Pink Floyd to use children in the song though - it was one of their producer Bob Ezrin who thought that the song needed something more to make it last a bit more, so he came up with the idea, recorded the children from Islington Green School while Pink Floyd were away - showed the band what he came up with and they liked it and kept it. It was their only #1 single in both UK and US at the same time (if I remember correctly).

Then again, people also probably don't know Waters got almost all the money from Animals as the royalties were being calculated per number of songs, instead of their combined length, so when Waters split Pigs on the wing, Gilmour was furious (Gilmour's "only" contribution was Dogs and it was the longest on the album, almost half of the album's total length, but since Waters made more songs, despite being shorter, Waters got paid a lot more) as he thought Roger only did it for the money.

Talking about The Great Gig In The Sky - Pink Floyd hired her and put her in a recording room and told her to sing. They didn't give her any lyrics or anything, they just said "Sing". She first tried some "Baby baby" stuff, they immediately stopped her and after a few takes she realized she had to be like an instrument, as soon as she realized that she recorded the song in her first take - she had a feeling that the first take would be THE take - and it was :)

About the lawsuit between Roger Waters and Pink Floyd (it was Waters that sued them for using the brand Pink Floyd, stating it does not exist without him being in the band, so it was Waters vs them, not the other way around) - Waters recently said he was very sorry for having sued the band, that it was very wrong of him to do it. It looks more and more likely that we might see them for a reunion tour once again, sadly without Wright. I've seen Waters' The Wall 3 times now, it's always a completely unique and ecstatic experience :)
