Couldn't resist the Columbus Day sale GAS!
I went to GC to swap my Mustang Floor toward a Mustang IV V2. (I have given up on Fender releasing a Mustang Floor V2.) Got to looking around and spotted a used Mustang V (V1) 412 cab. Salesman said someone had previously bought the head but didn't want the cab. Wound up buying a new Mustang V V2 head and the used V1 412 cab.

The black covering has a different texture between the V1s and V2s but the salesman says otherwise the Mustang 412 cabs are identical and interchangeable... anyone know if there actually is any other difference between the two?

I think the mismatched texture of the black covering is acceptable given the used cab was half the cost of a new one if that is the only difference between the two.

Any other Mustang V owners out there? How do you like it?

Now I am trying to justify $80 for the EXP-1 pedal!

Hi, Tiger J. I think the DSP unit of Mustang Amp V2 is same as Mustang Floor. This is from fender http://www.fender.com/support/articles/updating-firmware-on-fender-mustang-i-v-v2-amplifiers/:
- From the Mustang Floor: Touch and Pedal Wahs are available in both Stomp and Mod categories.
- Enhanced Headphone/Recording Speaker Cabinet Simulations (“higher definition”, same as with the Fender Mustang Floor)

^^^ “higher definition” meaning that Mustang Floor and Mustang Amp V2 doesn't fizzing.
If you looking for sound quality Mustang floor already have that. And you don't need to waiting fender releasing mustang floor v2.
But if you looking for new stompbox, you could change it to MV V2

Yes, Mustang 412 cab is identical and interchangeable, both using four Celestion Rocket 50 (which is very decent Celestion speaker). The difference is just covering texture.

hope this will help you.

Thanks azz-inside! I am very happy with the new rig!

Yes, I was aware that the Mustang Floor already possessed the superior DSP of the V2s... and, of course, it has XLR output like the V2s. But it only has the original 12 amp models and the original stomps and effects. I really wanted the Silvertone and Orange amp models and the intelligent pitch shifter!

Seems like they should have added the V2 extras to the Mustang Floor via a firmware update or something!

It have been 10 months since fender launch V2 amp, and still no firmware update for Floor since they had V2 amp. Hope fender didn't forget about Mustang Floor.

I was actually quite suprised of the Hi-Watt emulation. I havent heard a Hi-Watt before (I actually thought that Hi-Watt was a Marshall serie ). However, it is much brighter than the other marshalls and breaks up in a way i prefer over the marshalls in the Mustang V.

I've used it on my new album and was happy with the results (recorded with mic)

The new orange is also quite awesome, like mixing a marshall with a rectifier.

How is the mustang cab btw? I got a really good deal with a 2x12 cab with celestion vintage v70 on blocket("Swedish ebay"), my only concern with that is that the mustangs cab-simulation is probably eq-matched for the mustang cab.

This is my first half-stack... I am a novice/hobby player and have only owned combos previously. I cannot get over how wonderful the Mustang V V2 and 412 cab sound! It really rejuvenates your desire to just sit and play!

I am sure the pros on this forum would scoff... but I honestly would not be able to tell the emulations on the Mustang V from the actual tube amps it is modeling if I were blindfolded or listening to a recording.

As I said, I actually have a V1 cab paired with a V2 head... but have confirmed that the only difference between the V1 and V2 cabs is the grain of the black vinyl. You have to look very closely to even notice that the head and cab are mismatched and I paid half the price of a new V2 cab so it is well worth it.

The cab has 4 12 inch Celestion Rocket 50s and is in stereo 100 watts 8 ohms per side... actually it is two stereo 212s in one cabinet. Apparently many other cabs are built as mono enclosures and thus using them with the Mustang V head will disable the true stereo effects. Again, I am no pro, but I would imagine that the amp models and effects emulations are tonally optimal when the Mustang V head is paired with its intended cab. With many rack and floor amp modeling units, folks go straight to Hi-FrFr speakers or PAs so that the models won't be contaminated or colored by a combo amp's or cab's own speaker tones. And some companies like Tech 21, Atomic and Fractal Audio make amps with no tonal signature of their own specifically for use with amp modelers. But I have read on this forum that Fender designed the Mustang emulations specifically for play through the Celestion speakers that Fender uses in this amp series.

And, yes, I love the Hi-Watt and Orange models! I cannot get over the versatility of the Mustang V2s!
