Hi I'm new to my Mustang & Fuse. Is it possible to simply change the order of all the presets with Fuse? Eg, move 31 to position 1, move 1 to somewhere else (cos I don't like it), move 65 to position 2 etc.

Or do I have to note down all the settings, then over write the numbered positions manually.

Also is there a listing of all the standard presets somewhere in case I want to restore just a few of the originals without resetting all of them

Thanks

Gavrrr

Nah, man. Hook the amp up to your computer and open FUSE. Do a full BACKUP of your amp (will save all 100 presets). Then you can pull them up and save them to the amp in any order you like.

This has been discussed in many topics before, so I'll keep this brief as it should give you enough pointers/keywords to find all the previous information.

It is possible. It's not difficult. But it's not as simple / intuitive as it could/should be.

Ideally, there would be a drag-n-drop GUI in FUSE for moving presets around. There isn't. It's been asked for, Fender have acknowledged the request, we wait to see what they will do.

Failing that, there could be the ability simply to swap two presets with each other - that would enable a series of moves to be done quite easily, with a bit of thought. Again, it's been asked for and Fender are aware of the request, etc.

Until either of those features are available, you have to do it one preset at a time; there are a couple of options.

First, you could copy all presets to your computer using FUSE, into FUSE's 'media library.' Then, one at a time, save them all back to your amp, putting them in the positions you want, overwriting what was previous in that position. (But you don't lose the overwritten preset, because it's still saved in FUSE on your PC).

Second, you could just do a series of single moves. Pick one preset whose position you want, but whose sound you don't want to keep. Move into that position the preset you want to be there (simply by doing 'save' on the amp or in FUSE, which gives you the option of choosing a new preset position). Then pick the preset you want to move into the just-vacated position, and move that one, and so on. So for example, if you want to move presets 1, 17 and 6 into positions 17, 6 and 5, and don't care about 5: first move 6 to 5, then 17 to 6, then 1 to 17.

The third method is a PC app someone wrote once; I forget the details but it's on this forum, and the FUSE forum, somewhere. You backup your amp, then the app works on the backup file letting you re-order all the presets. The you restore the backup file to the amp and hey presto, all your presets are in the new order.

One trick I just figured out is do a backup in the utilities menu. This will save all your presets in the backup folder. The presets are numbered so I then altered the number prefix to change the order to my liking. Then I restored that to my amp. Worked like a charm. I'm using a mustang II with fuse on mac OS 10.6.8 so no app for me that I know of to re order and luckily 24 presets is a little easier to manage. I suppose if you just needed to rearrange a handful it would be a practical means. A bit rinky dinky but it worked.

As mentioned above and previously, there are apps available that do this for windows 7 and Mac OS 10.8. So if that fits your setup your good.

Re CaptainC from a post in another thread about being able to export the presets via a CSV file. Brilliant idea. I just spent a couple of hours typing out the standard V2 presets into an Excel file so I can look at what amps are where so I can look at getting them in some kind of order so I can group amp sounds together in groups instead of having them sprayed at random all over the preset locations as they currently are. My first attempt at downloading this to the amp will be after I hack the file name as per your suggestion. Thanks for that tip too.

If anyone wants a copy of this excel file let me know.

The only preset sequence order that makes any sense to me is the 83 through 99 for the basic amps. The rest of the preset sequence is a dogs breakfast. It would be interesting to know if there is any reasoning behind the random order of the presets.

I think I'll be grouping presets in sequenced groups such as, 'all amp types, clean & sweet as possible with just reverb, compression etc'. Then 'all amp types, overdriven & dirty'. Then 'all amp types, surf sound'. etc etc

At least this way we can get to know the Mustangs really well, then customise each sound, such as surf, to it's absolute best with the best amp that suits that sound. Then build a master list, of say 1 to 20 of each type of sound tuned to our own preference & then access them simply, one after the other with out jumping from preset 2, to 65, to 17 & so on.

I know if I was a gigging musician I'd be grouping presets in order of the gig's set list with appropriate notes on where they are so I could make sense of it all. The 4 button foot switch, which I'm using from my G-dec which is currently up for sale, is a great tool for the Mustang amp. Being able to jump through the presets 10 at a time, then 1 at a time is a great feature.

Keep the dialogue going guys.

One thing to make note of is keeping track of the order. On a mustang 2 there's only 24 and they are in 3 groups of 8 so what I did since I'm on a mac is color groups of 8 by color (orange, red, green) this helps me visualize the banks. I'd imagine with 100 presets, its much more daunting but once you know what preset zero is and where the bank switches in the list it makes sense. if you're on windows I suppose using excel is a great way to label banks by color

For this edit captainc. I have the original back up in a folder under \backups\2013_10_11_17_07_38 (which is the date of the back up folder\Presets, then there's 100 files such as 01_Whitechapel Heavy.fuse and 02_Intro Clean.fuse etc. If I edit these filenames by changing the prefix numbers to the new locations I want are these the only files I need to edit & then load these into the amp or do the other 100 files in the AmpData folder , such as M2_01.fuse, M2_02.fuse etc need to be edited as well?

If I need to edit 200 filenames I might use another method.

Thanks

I only edited the file names in the preset folder. I have a Mustang II so only have 24 presets to worry about and was only re ordering about 6 of those. I you are on windows the app or re ordering is called Horse Tamer I believe. You might want to check it out. I'm on mac OS 10.6.8 and there isn't anything I've found that runs on that OS.

I found the Horsetamer app which was written 2 years ago by a clever Swede called ischenitte. It was looking good after I sorted out a couple of buggy traits with file paths & opening the presets but when I started copying the presets from one part of the app to the other to edit them it appeared to rename the preset some innocuous number so it was looking too difficult to use or maybe I just didn't know what I was doing.

So in the end I just went back to editing the backed up file (in the presets folder for the applicable date) prefix manually as mentioned above. ie;- for the file 02_Intro Clean.fuse & 06_Pawn King.fuse, swap the 02 & 06 for these 2 files & restore them to the amp & they'll trade preset places in the numerical listing. But, as some of the discussion in this thread

viewtopic.php?f=26&t=55395&p=996425&hilit=horsetamer+preset+organizer#p996425

alludes to, a drag & drop style preset number editor is sorely needed in Fuse. If you look at page 6 of the thread there's a post from joshbuhler who mentions an app called Speed Shop for Macs which you might want to look at.

So after some mucking around to sort my presets in the order I want for now, I restored the presets to the amp & it worked no problems. I also adjusted my overall volume levels of each preset so they are roughly the same to avoid the annoying issue of getting blasted when scrolling through presets.

Thanks for discussing this issue with me

re-fuse (here viewtopic.php?f=26&t=94344) lets you do this on Windows, although I'm having problems using it right, maybe the issue is on my side.

You can also just open the backup folder in Explorer and rename the .fuse files accordingly (i.e. change the two digits at the start of each filename). Then restore the backup and all presets are ordered.

Found that out AFTER resorting them manually with placeholder presets and a big Excel table :(

I just used the mac app SpeedShop. It worked well. Kudos and thanks to its creator, Josh Buhler.

Where did you find the app? I downloaded it but could not find the actual app to launch within the dowloaded files. Help!?
