So I recorded my band video with the Mustang IV. Had the amp mike'd in a separate room. Came through real nicely in the mix. I'm using three presets for these songs, which were all built around the stock presets that came with the IV:

The Clean Sound is BEAUTY CLEAN with a few adjustments
The Distorted Sound is CLIFFS OF DOVER with a few adjustments
The Crunchy Sound is 60's SPARKLE, with a few adjustments

Hope you enjoy it:

nice demo! A Long Island cover band, eh? I was in a few of those myself. Really nice work, I like the whole 'look' of your band, it works. Good players all around. And the Mustang sounds real nice in the mix.

good demo! (and beautiful girl ;-) )
Mustang sounds great, of course.
I like the style of your band .. and I'm usually hard to please , I tend to prefer the things of the past .. classic rock and the like.
Your however, is one of the cases in which things seem to work just fine.
Best wishes from Italy :-)

Not to rain on anyone's parade and with all due respect, the lead vocalist as cute as she might be, would really benefit from a half a dozen professional voice lessons. It is amazing what a few lessons can do to point one in the right direction and to learn from it from there.

Thanks everyone for watching and for the comments. I was hopeful that some other Mustang enthusiasts could see how versatile and great sounding these amps are. We are a new band, about 6 months old, so we are still learning, but I think we have an original enough concept (rock versions of pop/dance hits) to appease all likes. We've gotten management, and are now booked heavlily in the Long Island area.

Strings--I watched some of your Mustang Demos. Dude, you are a sick player. Everyone should hear your rock demo of the Mustang III. You need to give me some lessons.

As for our singer, well, anyone would improve with lessons. But, truth be told, she is a music teacher and vocal instructor herself. It's her living. But I would agree--lessons are crucial for any musician looking to make some $$ doing this. Thank god for Youtube lessons, otherwise I couldn't afford them :-)

Thanks for not taking any offense as I only wanted to help. She is singing from her throat on most all of the demo songs and comes off one dimensional but cute and I believe it will become taxing for *her* and the audience over a period of a show.

She needs to practice rule #1 in voice and sing from the diaphragm because her throat is stressed. This can be easily corrected with practice. My 2 cents anyway and I have taken professional voice lessons from a world renowned vocal coach. Good job laywrite and thanks for posting the video.

Kindest regards and much success to your band,
Here In Oregon (HIO)

Nice sounds mate :) While I am a lot more for old rock music we also cover Adele's Rolling in the Deep. I said I won't play any of that newage pop music on my guitar so I always switch with our bassist for that song and play the bass myself, kinda made a Roger Waters style of bass arrangement for the song - people actually think it's a Pink Floyd song when I open up with a first few notes  You guys have also changed some of the instruments arrangements, but the one thing that's missing (at least in my humble opinion) is changing the vocal arrangement to also rock up the song, as it's not just the instruments that make a song a pop or a rock one. It's a lot to do with vocal arrangement, so spice that up a bit more too :) I don't really know all the songs that you covered that well (as I haven't played any of them and also heard them only on the radio and that's only if I was somewhere where I couldn't change the station :P), but from what I've heard the vocal arrangement is pretty much the same as the one in original songs. Ok the whole song(s) might have been transposed to a different key, but that is it as far as the vocal arrangement got changed. Spice it up a bit, add some grit to it and you'll be surprised with the results. As long as you don't overdo it :)

Just my suggestion anyway, I don't consider myself as the best muso in the world (I actually always consider myself as a bad one as I have very high targets and as soon as I reach a higher level, my bars get set higher - it's the only way to advance your skills as much as possible), but I always observe and report my observations if they can help somebody :) As I said, try it out and if you aren't amazed by the results after trying it a couple of times, feel free to disregard my opinion.

Otherwise really nice sounds and really nice playing mate :)

Thanks for the kind words laywrite :D

By the way, are you aware of OmniPop? LINK I never did it myself but I understand they can get you some LI and Manhattan gigs.

They do the booking work, but the trade off is not being able to book ANY of your own paying gigs (or at least that how it was about 10 years ago) and they obviously take a cut of the pay. But if you want to play out a lot, it might be worth looking into. I'm really out of touch with the LI scene at this point, so it definitely might be different now.

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I was hopeful to get some constructive criticism from a 'jury of my peers', and not just friends saying how much they love us. As we are new, we are sill tightening things up...but we have confidence and drive so we hope to make a splash in the busy Long Island music scene.

Strings--yep, know Omnipop well, have some friends that are with them. Same deal...they get you in the best places, but you can't book your own stuff, as they don't want their bands playing at the local sports bar. I don't think we're ready for them yet, and they also book their bands in MA, NJ, CT, and upstate NY, which is something our busy schedules wont allow at this time.

We're with http://www.mlicataentertainment.com/. She books all her bands just on LI, and she has enough places in her corner to keep us very busy.

On a side note...I recently switched from the Mustang IV to a Mustang Floor into a 15 watt tube amp. I like both, but the floor/tube combo has a crisper, cleaner, warmer tone. It's good to have both options given the variety of gig and practice situations that have come up, and the simple need for a backup.

Cheers!
