Why? Not challenging you; just curious about that amp.

I gotta say, "me too" as far as next amp not being a new mustang v2 despite all my love for it. My next is gonna have to be the DRRI. Not even the new 68 amp which the reviews are saying is darker (and made in mexico).

I feel like it's something every guitar player must do..... What do they say? There are 2 types of guitar players: those who own a Deluxe Reverb and those who will. I may or may not end up thinking the $1,000 did not do me any better than a $425 Mustang....but the tube snob voices are loud and persistent and I still need to see what it's like.

I'm the kind of guy who judges things in life on actual quality (as determined by my senses) and not reputation or price...clothes, guitars, amps, cars, etc...I drive a ford because it gets me to work the same as a BMW would, with less repair costs actually. I will judge for myself whether the DRRI gives me better clean and overdriven tones than the mustang. But I have to try the DRRI to see.

I have no doubt that the mustang 4 v2 is awesome. And I LOL a little at the "post your pedal board thread" over on the main forum where folks have frankensteined $2,000-worth of pedals (many NOT analog--they are digital) to try to digitally re-create using a bunch of unwieldy chords about 10% of what the Mustang 4 can do in side its box. (example...every tube snob seems to have the same pedals!! lol...talk about no individuality...they all have the same chorus, the same OCD overdrive, etc).

but nevertheless I will join them and get a DRRI tube amp eventually....

from there I will see which I truly prefer for the small club gigs I swear I will be doing one day.

Now, there are numerous guys on this very forum who are gigging musicians, many with 40 years of experience, going pretty big gigs...real gigging pros.. who have said they sold their Twin and all the pedals and now use M3 because of the ease of transport and the tone is good enough.

But I feel like I cannot learn from their experience and I must first experience the tube/pedal thing myself.

Kind of like you have to get married before you can get divorced.

If it is the Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissues you want, I have two in like new and in immaculate condition with the original boxes and paperwork which I have been meaning to sell.

that is what I want but unless you're thinking of some kind of incredible near give-away stupid cheap price deal, which I doubt, I can't do it now due to paying my ex wife $5,000 a month.

Her Wanna: The Peavey Classic 30 gives me just the tone I want. :D I'm a HUGE fan of late 60s/70s rock, and love the warm cleans and creamy growly overdrive sounds- without the harshness inherant in so many modern high gain amps or pedals. ( think Skynyrd, Neil Young, Blue Cheer, Jefferson Airplane, Allmanns Alice Cooper, Buddy Guy, Albert King, etc.)

Hartley designed the Classic series to do just that. ( he was thinking blues, but the amps turned out to be rock monsters, too) I've demo'd this amp with several guitars, and have been awed by the sounds I've gotten. It's a tone machine, imo. I think this series of amps is Peavey's " Deluxe/ bassman/Princeton, etc. Ie the quintessential old school Peavey amp that fans keep coming back to again and again.

That's MY opinion. Will others feel the same way? Dunno- I'm not them. All I can say is when you do go out to try out some tube amps- like that DRRI- give this one a whirl too.

It's 30 watts, all tube (3, 12AX7's and 4 EL-84's). 1x12, and open backed. 2 channels, clean and lead ( which can get all sorts of gnarley if you want), and spring reverb. It's also REALLY loud, but can do semi quiet, if you need. ( It's also really friggin heavy for it's size because it's built like a tank) If you like the 2x12 format, try the Classic 50. Same tube compliment, same voicing etal- just with more nuts, a master volume and presence, and it comes in 2x12 and 4x10 versions.

A darker guitar, like an LP will enhance the warmness of the cleans, with a 'bucker or P90.

I'm not getting rid of my Mustang, though- it's too versatile and sounds too good! Same goes for my Super Champ X2. In a nutshell, I HAVE that Fendery bright clean and crunch sound. Now I want to add another option. ( plus the tweed covering just looks great)

Peavey Classic 30 is a great amp and it seems many prefer it to the Fender HRD 40.

Interestingly, up until today I owned a Peavey Delta Blues 210 but rarely played straight through it; I would run a Mustang Floor through it. Got GAS today and traded both in on a Mustang V V2 half stack.

Actually the half stack was an impulse buy as I was at the store looking at a Mustang IV V2 which itself is more than I really need; but I was actually able to get the half stack for exactly $10 less than the IV because the store had a barely used Mustang V 412 cab at half the price of the new ones. So now I will find out if 4 Celestions are better than 2 or if 2 Celestions would have been worth paying $10 bucks more!

The tube-snob in me is now justifying the trade by saying "but now I have a HALF STACK!" But honestly, I really don't think I could tell a Mustang model from the real amp if I were blindfolded and now I will never have to buy expensive JJ tubes and pay for pro install and biasing!

Modeling and other solid state amps have come a long way and I am beginning to seriously question the price tags on the amps persisting with the 50 years old tube technology! Don't get me wrong - they sound great and are legendary! But the prices are just insane and shouldn't the megabucks go toward new instruments rather than new amplification?
