Covered in many other topics, search this forum and you'll find lots of info. But in brief the V2 amps have:

- different exterior cloth, different fonts / letering on control panel

- a few more amp models and effects

- improved (lower noise) power amp

- XLR outputs for "line out" to PA/mixer

- slight changes to position of fx-loop in signal chain

- more control of EXP-1 settings on amp (rather than needing FUSE)

Thanks Scott.

I did do a search for IV to try and narrow down but it wouldnt search. When I searched for Mustang IV there mega posts.

You pretty much covered what I was looking for. There's a big price difference and for what I need, I cant justify spending the extra money .

Thanks again.

Try searching for "V2" (or "V.2" as some people call it) - all the amps have V2 versions and the changes are similar across the range.

That will be because any remaining new-stock V1 amps are reduced. The full retail price didn't increase by much for the V2 amps.

I have a Mustang IV V1. It does everything I need. Unless you very specifically need one of the new features on the V2 amps (which it sounds like you don't), the V1 will be great. Buy and enjoy!

Thanks again for the advice.
Unfortunately when searching for IV the search also picks up I and V. But, my results lowered from over 16000 to over 2300 by changing the search within to topic titles only.

try putting quotes around search terms that you want to stay together.

FWIW, if I were shopping a new Fender Mustang amp right now, I'd try to find a v1 that is being sold cheap because they are discontinued. They're great amps, and that didn't change when the v2 amps came out. Just my opinion... happy shopping!

Thanks strings

I'm leaning really hard towards the IV V.1

Sweetwater, where I bought my Jag has it for 299

299 for that amp is a steal. I paid $425 when they were new and I feel I got a steal. Thing is a monster. never had any fizz issue with mine either.

it's worth 299 (or 425) just to have 2X12 celestians w/ 150W and any one of the clean amp models...just use as a "real amp"..... never mind the fact that the effects are good too and if not overdone.....great. awesome clean tone....actually the other models too....supersonic w/ no pedals can be your crunch.....

in other words you can pick any one model....65 deluxe, 65 princeton.....basic amp, just use reasonable EQ....gain between 3 and 7 depending on if you want super clean or a little crunch......add OD pedal if you want that....touch of reverb.......NEVER use any of the 5,000 other options....and you have a monster great amp that has won blind test tone battles with the DRRI. I'm getting more and more into clean tones and even tube snobs admit that this thing is great for clean tones and takes real pedals.....many use it like a "real amp" -- so you get 150 watts and 2X12 great sounding celestians for $299....solid state but that 150 watts is equal to 50 or 80 tube watts......if you need to get louder than that you need to talk to your band about controlling stage volume

the thing i love is having 2X12 yet being able to have good tone at bedroom volumes too....it can be a twin reverb or a practice amp....... many love the M3 even but I say why not spend a little extra...save a few more months or do whatever is necessary....it's no toy either.....it is heavy and has a solid box...so it can do low end.

I'd like to have the v2 just to have even more options, but for 299 you are getting the power and volume of a $1,000 tube amp w/ 2X12 IMO.

in short, for 299, assuming you don't have fizz problem.....that's a steal simply to have 2X12 and all that power if you simply used it as a "real" 65 deluxe amp and never changed the settings or used any of the effects.

Her Wanna,

Thanks for the in depth user info. that went a long way with me.
For now, it's strictly home use. Back in the day, (late 60's) I was in a band and had a Jag & dual showman. If I ever get to that level again, I'd like to jam. I'm to old to relive my youth in reality.

I think the IV V.1 will suit all of my needs.

Thanks for your help!

My pleasure. I'm loving the amp more and more. I'm sitting at work wishing I could go home and play. I think I have even experienced the speaker break-in that I never consciously paid attention to. I've had mine since about May 2011 (never a problem BTW) and I think it is sounding better every day. Thinking back, when it was brand new I remember being disappointed and playing my tiny little 8 inch line 6 amp (my first amp) a lot....no more. The speakers broke in. (you can use the mp3 input to do this...let it play from your iPod all day for a few days when you're not home).

Of course my picking might have improved too, but I actually think this amp is going to be my little secret weapon when I get in a band or do an open mic or something. I'm talking to this jazz club owner I know about letting me play for free at lunch time on week days when it's empty anyway, and I have a feeling I will experience people saying "what amp is that?" and being surprised at the answers as I have heard others have experienced. I'm telling you the clean tone(s) are just beautiful....on any of the models. Dial EQ and reverb/delay to your liking...or even a vibratone effect not overdone...just super duper piano-like "bell like" "shimmering" cleans. I've been looking at getting a DRRI or Princeton Reissue and I honest am feeling like I would miss the 2X12, comparing the amps pound for pound, forgetting price difference. I have held off on the DRRI because I feel like I might actually end up preferring the mustang, especially for what I do home recording in an apartment. But even on a small stage....again I like the 2X12, 50 pounds...I have held off on getting a Princeton feeling like it would be a downgrade in sound, pound for pound, forgetting price. Money no object.

Sorry for the long posts...I just love this amp. I want to go play it right now.

Oh.....don't be discouraged by the factory presets it comes with. As many have stated, they are waaaaaaay overdone, with 3 pedals on all of them (stomp, modulation, delay), with ridiculous settings like level or presence or gain as the case may be on 10 (!!!).....lots of muddiness. Just forget that.

Break in your speakers and start with a basic amp model such as 65 deluxe or 59 bassman....NO PEDALS....just some reverb (such as at 2 or 2.5, not 9 or 10 : )).....and experience great clean tone. Add an overdrive pedal....gain and level at 5 or 6 or 7, not 10......there's a great lead with great sustain tone.

There is a review of the mustang on youtube and I feel sorry for fender because it's with the factory presets and sounds like garbage.

the real thing is much better.....less is more....use it like a "real amp" without all the watery effects. (then again, if you want that sometimes, it can totally nail things like the weird chorus/tremelo effect in the Nirvana "come as you are" solo and anything else you want to dial in, such as all things Nirvana.....the 90s american model nails it simply using the gain on the amp OR adding overdrive/chorus pedals...)

I actually think fender succeeded in modeling what it was trying to model. for example I can 100% nail the smells like teen spirit solo where at the end it decays into that feedback....

I actually asked fender to please NOT listen to many of the comments on this board about suggested improvements, because I think some of the "noise" people complain about is simply the amp behaving as the real tube amp would behave if people stood 2 feet away from it with their guitar and gain and overdrive levels way up at 8 or above....it gives feedback like the real thing responding to you. Some of the complainers want to put super overdriven distorted tones with gain on 8 and then sit 1 foot away from the amp and have it be dead silent...that would NOT be modeling the real amp correctly!!!! Ever see Jimi Hendrix or John Mayer go over in front of their amp on purpose to get feedback to use as part of the sound they are making? the mustang 4 does that.

When you get your amp, sit down with it and open this thread:

viewtopic.php?t=75417

This is my thread. I started it for the exact same reasons I listed in the very first post. And I got a LOT of positive feedback from it, including Fender themselves contacting me to give me props on it. I got a free Fender T-shirt and a Fender wall-hanger out of it. Very cool people.

I have the Mustang V half-stack, so the biggest combo I'd probably get to be more portable would be the Mustang III. But I have a M2 and I'm considering trying to sell it as I hardly ever use it, the faceplate requires FUSE too much (even though I already know the ins and outs of the software), and I got a friend who'd like to get into guitar and I can sell it to him below costs...you know how friends do.

I wish I had the Mustang V v.2 because the new amp models are sweet - especially that sexy Orange OR120.

Thanks for the link.
Great info and a lot of research on your part!
When it finally arrives, I'll have a lot of exploring/learning to do.

I can't speak to the IV as I have a III, but Her Wanna and others are right- these amps get ridiculously good tones for their price range. It's not even that difficult- the user interface on the III and up allows you to turn on/off any effects with the press of one button. Want to change amp models? Press and hold the amp button, till the amp is highlighted on the LCD screen. Then turn the data wheel to scroll through the models. That's it! As soon as you switch to a different amp model, it's active. The SAVE button even lights up to tell you that you've changed something within that preset, and to save it if you like it.

I'll go in a lil different direction than HW.

I'm a pedal guy. I like them. The Mustang series of amps takes pedals VERY well. The only exception is that if you want to use an overdrive pedal as a booster, use the one included in the amp. ( big level boosts into digital preamps don't work well.) I just prefer to have physical knobs to twirl. The onboard effects are pretty nice, too. I especially like the reverbs.

For my cleans, I like to add some subtle, slow chorus for depth, and perhaps a mid boost for extra punch. I have my amp sitting on the floor well away from any walls ( thin walls and neighbors, lol), and I can get some serious bass out of it.

Mine was used, so the speaker was already broken in.

Currently, the '59 bassman is my go to amp model. A very nice clean sound, and it crunches up nicely. Also sounds good with whatever effects I throw at it.

One other thing I should mention- My Mustang loves pretty much every guitar I hook up to it. Single coils, humbuggies, P90's, vintage or modern, they all sound good through this amp.

The basic advice above is sound- rather than diving in head first and getting lost in all the options, concentrate on one thing at a time and really figure it out. It's ALL tweakable! Even the basic amp models have a myriad of options to make them yours!

I'm tempted by the V2, for the Silvertone and Hi Watt models, and for the expanded od/ dirt options, but I'm going to stick with what I have for now. ( my next amp purchase will be a Classic 30)

Pyroman

I bought a 50th Anniversary Jaguar last week and decided I need to upgrade my amp from a FM65R to this Mustang IV.

It's scheduled to be delivered later today. I cant wait to marry them!

I'm reliving my youth from the 60's
