Hello Everyone, reporting from sunny Venezuela here's a fellow Mustang fan :D, been owning an M1 V.1 for over a year and it has been all full of good tones and incredible performance, as expected form Fender :D, I'm here now 'cause hopefully I'm going tomorrow Tuesday on a trip to Florida and in between all the things I plan to do/get there I'm going to get myself a gigging amp, and well it's pretty obvious at what line of amps I'm looking at xD, as I have 500$ I'm getting an M4 V.2, so my question is:

What should I look for when trying it? is the volume change from the M1 to the M4 enough for gigging? (I could keep up with a drummer in a closed bedroom with my M1 at 5 on the master, custom preset), and I'm going to get it home by plane, should I get some extra-protection on it's box just in case? or will the packaging hold up?

I'm going to be there for 15 days, when I get back home expect pics and hopefully clips on here :D, gotta do some content on the M4 'cause is pretty much the hardest Mustang to find anything about on the web.

Beforehand Thanks for your help and Keep on Rocking :D,

Adolfo Herrera.

I would say, take note of a couple presets you like on your mustang 1 on paper, and try to reproduce them while in the store. Then play with a guitar similar to yours. Put master volume at 3 or 4 and you WILL hear the difference (not only the v2 sounds better than the v1, but in your case the speakers are SO different that you will perceive the difference immediately)

the packaging was pretty sturdy and should be fine for air travel. that said, it will cost you a fortune in shipping costs. The other thing. obviously the american mustang is going to be 110v so plan on getting a BIG 110/220 transformer (plan for a couple hundred watts)

Ok going to take notes of the presets now, as the guitar I'll be sure to try it with the closest one to mine that I can find there (I have an ESP LTD Mh-100qm, a normal 24 fret FR superstrat, would have an actual Fender if they would make an affordable 24 fretter :/) and yes I know about having to pay extra for the shipping but it's my only way of shipping it here, the airlines say that I can take with me up to 23kg of luggage, and as far as I know the M4 is 21kg, no? apart from the amp I won't take too much stuff with me so I'm no really concerned about that, just needed to know if it would hold up for the whole shipping process, and well my M1 is 110V (I ordered it online from the states last year) and it works just fine, the M4 should hopefully do so aswell.

Huge Thanks for your advice by the way! :D

Just another thing I've been concerned lately: how to test if the amp is going to "fizz"? (as far as I heard the V2s don't have that issue but would like to be sure that the one I'm getting is going to be totally flawless, It'll be my main amp and having it making strange noises would be a pitty :X)

And sorry if my english is rubbish :X, still ascending on the learning curve xD.

here's a way to produce the fizz on M3-4-5 v1

On your guitar
-select your bridge pickup, preferably a humbucker in this case
-put guitar volume at 10 or max
-lower tone of the bridge pickup to 1 or min

On your M3-4-5
-Select preset 92 (basic deluxe 65)
-lower treble to minimum
-lower mid to minimum
-increase bass to maximum
-put master volume to around 2.5

Now, on your guitar, fret the 12th fret 6th string and gently pluck the the 6th string with the tip of two fingers, if you do it very hard it could mask the fizz, as the fizz is usually 3dB lower than the actual guitar sound

The scitar modulated high pitched sound in the back is the fizz.

while it has not totally disappeared on V2 amps, it has diminished to a point were is almost unnoticeable in 99% of cases. With the kind of guitar you mention I'm guessing you are more on the high gain sounds so that would not be a problem, even with a fizzy v1 amp.

not sure à packaged M4 would be accepted by the airline without extra charges.

for the 110/220v transformer, take into consideration that the M4 will require more juice to run, so your existing transformer might be enough or not.

Perfect, Thanks for advice :D, yes I'm usually more of a lead player so I use Medium/High gain tones more often than clean/crunch tones but I do still use them, good to know that V2s produce less fizz by the way, and well you got me on the transformer capacity, going to look for a capable one to run it safely.

You can see from some of my questions that I'm just getting into high powered amps, the M4 it's going to be my first Big amp so there's a lot of stuff I still gotta learn about how to properly use and maintain it, just to let you know how new I'm to big amps, it's going to be the first time I play through an amp with more than 1 speaker xD, can't belive I haven't done so in almost 5 years of playing.

Again Thanks for your help :D, going to do a NAD thread when I get it to share some tones xD.

lollozlzozlzlo what ridiculous settings nobody would use. my M4v1 has no fizz but does have great tone both clean and Nirvana style and everything in between.

OP don't worry about any fizz.

M4v2 will be a great amp. you will not believe how much better than M1...speakers matter.
