Hi

I had read a few posts on other forums like TGP that the 2x12C cab sounded really natural and full with a lot of the amp models on the Mustang so thought i'd give it a try. I have to say that this made a huge difference on the tones. I always thought there was just something not quite right and that maybe doing an open back mod might do the trick but don't think i need to now. Tried this cab on the Bassman and Princeton models and those are now my two favorite presets.

Anyone else tried this cab or have a fav cab/amp combo?

Even though the 2x12C is the "correct" cab for the "British 60s" amp model (cf: Vox AC30), I prefer the sound of the "57 DLX" cab with that amp model. No logical reason, purely aural aesthetics.

Just for grins, I tried the 2x12C on the "British 80s" model and I like it much better than the standard 4x12M...

Mix and match...

I will have to check that cab out, I only use the Brit 80s for my crunch and lead tones. I was using the 4x12V but found the 4x12M has a more low end thump but will see how the 2x12C compares!

I'll definitely be checking out the Deluxe and JCM models with this cab. I haven't played around with the Deluxe much and had better luck with the Plexi in terms of my marshally tones. The 2x12C seemed to balance out the models that i tried it with nicely. I also pulled the SAG back and goosed the BIAS which Filled them out a bit more too.

Hi,
at the moment i play clean tones on Deluxe 65 / default cab , with mid around 6, bass around 5, and treble 7/7.5 .. bias -10% , gain 3.5/4...

I listened to a video demo of a real deluxe and realized that it can be bright too depending on settings. The default setting found in Mustang amp had me misled.
Let's say it is a rediscovery to me about this amp.. i thought it had a little too much dark tone for my taste but i was wrong.

another recent experiment was the match Champ + 4x12M cab.. + fuzz... unfortunately i have overwrite the preset and i can't remember the settings.. however the marshall cab gives even to a little amp as the Champ a more powerful and open sound.. i don't like much the combination Champ+default cab....
I think that a similar concept can be applied also to another little amp like the Silvertone (60 Thrift)

ok....way too many options if we start talking about mixing and matching cabs. I purposely have not tried something like putting a 4X12 with princeton..

I play princeton w/ princeton as cab, deluxe w/ deluxe, etc....trying to pretend I have the real thing, to the extent fender has succeeded in making it that way.

don't tell me I need to do something like put a 4X12 cab w/ princeton!?! what if I fall in love w/ that sound and then my OCD will kick into overdrive??? (my obsessive-compulsive disorder, not my OCD distortion pedal)

To my ears, (i have the MII as well so results may vary) i found that my perceived "boxiness" that i thought i might eventually try and remedy by doing the "Open Back" mod went away as soon as I started pairing things with the 2x12C cab. It was my Mustang "Eureka" moment. Maybe its just that EQ curve with this speaker but give it a try. I'd certainly be interested in other folks experience with it.

I am hearing you loud and clear and knew what you meant about the obsessive compulsive disorder and the Mustangs; I can totally relate.

I love the 65 Twin done a dozen ways, love the 65 Deluxe and Princeton done a half dozen ways and love the Marshall British 80s done a couple of ways and it is beginning to feel like there is no end in stop. ...---...

Hi,
now i understand those alternative combinations to have a more open sound! For distraction I had not in mind that you have a Mustang with the closed back cabinet..
Probably I had a different approach in the combinations that I have chosen, because the Mustang 3 (v2) has the open back cabinet.
