Hello to everyone!
I'm a Greek musician, playing traditional instruments and I've started playing guitar the last year. I have a jaguar guitar, and I put it in a mustang II through a california cable. Poping up the volube I have a terrible noise which is more or less while I'm moving, or while I grab the guitar or the cable. Can anyone help?

Hi Papainos,

I would suggest you take a close look at the guitar jack, they normally come loose after a while and you will get shorts in there.

another possibility is the cable itself, disconnect from the guitar and without touching the cable tip (that will create a lot of noise) wiggle it around. If you hear any noises your cable is shorted.

Thank you very much for these advices but...
I forgot to say (my fault) that, the cable and the guitar is ok (without noise) when I put it in some other boxes. I have the noise only in my mustang. Plus, I don't have noise with other cables in my mustang. So, maybe the combination mustang - california?

one thing I have noticed with my Mustang Floor (different model than yours, but that uses the same instrument input connector) is that for some reason some cables have a tendency not to make perfect contact with the instrument input.
I need either to partially disconnect (1 - 2 mm) the jack from the instrument input for it to work okay. I also noted that with the problematic cables, if you pull, the cable comes off the jack more easily than with other cables.
It is worth noting also that the problematic cables come off easily also from my guitar (fender strat) so I have a tendency to think that the cable is not perfectly built.

I think the cable tip shape may be slightly different in some cables and cause this issue but I'm not sure.

after spending hundreds of dollars on a guitar and hundreds of dollars on an amp, it just doesn't make sense to skimp with the wires. Buy the best wires you can find, you will replace them less over the years so the extra cost is even justified.

I understand what you 're saying, but how do you explain the fact that the cable works perfectly into other boxes?

it seems to support jedi2b's comment, since as you also noted other cables work OK with the same guitar and the Mustang amp.

Hi Papainos,

And thanks guys for the friendly and helpful comments and suggestions. I agree here that if for some reason, the one specific cable is causing noise issues with the amp, using a different cable is the best plan. It does not have to be a terribly expensive cable. But if you have determined that a second cable works properly, then I would go that way. And please let us know if we can assist with anything on our end.

Best Regards,

Alan

Thank you Alan and all the guys for the advises!
Maybe you're wright about the new cable and maybe you could suggest some. Although, I think that the solution is simple. If someone knows something about the cables, inside the amp, about the grounding, please tell me.

well, if the defect is related to how the tip of the cable makes contact inside the instrument input jack there's not much you can do, other than opening up your amp and tweak the instrument input tip contact until it works with your cable. I had to do that with my guitar jack as the jack spring did not have enough tension

on the other hand, if you are looking for inexpensive cables that work well with the mustangs, try the following planet waves series:

this other planet waves, more expensive gave me some trouble:

I use Fender California cable with 6 different guitars through mustang 4 v1 never had a single problem. not one fizz or crackle. dead silent, great tone.
