Thanks HIO Well...that's my Mustang Floor ordered. Should get on Tuesday.

Don't know ya but I am excited for you. :D

Regarding your trade secrets, I may get a Tube Screamer and CS3 to stick there with my Fulltone Clyde Deluxe

I have tried almost every distortion/overdrive pedal on the planet and just between you and me and i don't want to give out too many of those trade secrets but I would highly suggest you check out and compare the Tonebone (12AX7 Tube) Classic with the Tube Screamer and CS3. Also, the Floor has a pretty good compressor already built in.

In terms of gigs and PAs. Is it the norm for guitars to go the PA in stereo or just one side in mono?

It depends. Typically, if I am the only guitarist playing I like going to the PA with both XLR outs left and right and usually panned hard left and right on the PA and you can also complement any stereo effects you are using. If I am playing with a second guitarist I may take just take a left or a right out but I have done it a myriad of ways depending on many factors.

Cheers in advance of Tuesday!

Thanks HIO

Can't wait for Tuesday to come

I recall you saying that you put your other pedals "before" the floor. Why aren't they put on the floor's FX loop? Is there some advantage to them being in the signal chain between the guitar and floor?

Just watched a Youtube of the Tonebone. It sounds great, even on Youtube.

Your info and opinions in this thread have been ace. Thanks HIO.

Some effects bid well in an effects loop like time based effects e.g., delays, echos, along with short delays with modulation like chorusing, flanging, phasing, reverbs, along with pitch transposers and harmonizers, although the Floor has many of these built in so if you wanted to add more per say an effects loop works well.

However, I have never liked a distortion/overdrive in an effects loop. For example, you would want to add reverb to the already distorted sound and not distort the guitar and the reverb. You will likely end up with a muddied sound if you distort the reverberated signal or other time based effects.

In your situation I would take your guitar and plug it into your Fulltone Clyde Deluxe and then into your Overdrive/Distortion pedal and then into the Fender Floor.

Many however are quite happy with the overdrives/distortions built into the Floor. For me crunch rhythm works well but for the soaring lead sound that I like, a clean amp setting like the Fender Twin patch and an outboard distortion/overdrive pedal before the Floor gets me my sound.

Wow thanks HIO

That all made perfect sense. I'm almost kicking myself for not figuring it out myself. :?

That's a defo then. I'll be putting the Clyde Deluxe, C3 and OD/Dist (in that order) before the floor. I know you said the floor has a good compressor. I've heard or watched somewhere that 2 compressors doing their bit can be quite interesting for sustain. I may give it a try.

By the way, I'm too busy with work that I won't get a chance to test run my floor until the weekend. :(

Thanks again

Note the Mustang Floor's fx-loop isn't in the usual place you'd expect to find an fx-loop - that is, after the amp modelling.

On the Mustang Floor, the fx-loop is the very first thing in the signal chain. The upshot of this is that there is absolutely no difference in sound between putting external effects between the guitar and the M-Floor input, versus putting them in the M-Floor's fx-loop. The only advantage to using the fx-loop is that you can bypass the whole loop with a single footswitch press in the M-Floor.

Other topics discuss the pros and cons of this, why Fender put the fx-loop in this position, comparisons with other multi-fx floor units that have the fx-loop in different places, etc. So I won't repeat all that here.

Been using the MF for recording & live with excellent results. Great Fender tube amp tones.

Not impressed with on-board Compressors though.

Still using my MXR Dynacomp for "squishy" tones.

Very interesting scott-uk, I still want my pedals before the Floor and not in the effects loop and I can turn them on or off when needed and don't need an effects loop macro to turn them all on/off but now that you mention it I did once put a Boss RC-3 looper pedal into the effects chain and every time I switched patches on the Floor the looper took all of my takes and made them sound whatever current Floor patch I was on. Duh!

I didn't even get it at the time and i might even have had a glass of wine. All I can say is WOW and thanks for the heads up!

Yes the Floor's compressor is subtle but I like it just the same especially in the way i use it.

Thanks Scott-uk

I understand what your saying mate and am glad they did this. :)

Something interesting that HIO said regarding a "macro" selector got me seeing advantages to this.

I guess having both options enables the user to have a few pedals they tend to use exclusively together (or not at all) in the fx-loop, placiing any other pedals which are generally used in a piece by piece manner before the unit.

This means you can pick and choose between the pedals before the unit and switch the fx-loop ones on and off with just one press on the floor. Sorted !!!

By the way, I just managed to get 30 mins to check out the first 50 presets on my floor which I arrived today. I really like this thing 8)

Thanks everyone.

Wonderful!!! Then you got to hear Beauty Clean and British Steel. Please note that the pedal on the Floor can be pushed down in the front to engage the delay or reverb, or what have you, and how you've set it up for pedal manipulation in real time. Also the tap tempo/tuner switch is your friend. 8)

Hello, I'm new to the forum, first post.

I bought a Floor a few weeks ago, mainly because I'm fed up with a case full of pedals and connecting cables. I intended to use the Floor for the effects only, ie not bother with the amp modelling, but I find that this is good and I use I a lot. I mainly use the Bassman modelling through a HRD or Blues Junior, sometimes there is a fair amount of work to do in balancing the Floor with the amp tonally. I play a CS deluxe strat and a USA Standard Telecaster.

I've tended to keep it simple so far, I've programmed 6 or so patches which cover the sounds I need for my band's set list, mainly by editing preset patches to get what I want. I'm still playing around with the full capabilities.

I've used it at several band practices and at one gig so far a couple of weeks ago, all went well, pleased with the Floor so far, thinking of sticking my box full of pedals on eBay.

Great first post and welcome to this here forum. I am continually discovering new ways to do things on the Floor and am finding it to be the most versatile tool for guitar period.

Although, I have not tried the $2200.00 Fractal Axe-Fx II Preamp/FX Processor along with its $750.00 MFC-101 Midi Foot Controller and I have no plans to.

Had more time with this floor. I must say...I'm really enjoying this and I still haven't explored all its features extensively and pushed its tweak-ability yet. :D

Thanks for that advice HIO. You've been really helpful. :D

If you are into Fender Cleans, the Mustang Floor kills the Zoom G5. As nice as it is, the G5 can do cleans with some coaxing, but not in the same league as the Mustang Floor or something like the Mustang III v2.
