Many thanks all for your valuable insight and comments. I think I know which one I am going to go for.

One thing I want to ask is that do any of you use them with headphones at all? Is the quality via headphones respectable?

Thanks again,
G

There has been much discussion about the headphone outs on these amps. Can do a search and see what folks are saying. My 2 cents is that it works fine for late night jamming however I would be cautious about tweaking presets using the headphones if you are happy with how they sound from the speaker as they are voiced differently. In my situation, I work in NYC and live in PA so when I get home its usually pretty late so headphones are in order to keep from blasting out the wife and kids. When I first bought my Mustang, I made the mistake of setting up patches late at night and what was “Thank you Cleveland” in my cans, turned out to be pure shite when Mrs. Captain C went to the store on Saturday and I cranked it up. It really tainted my impression of the amp. So did a factory reset and removed the FX to see what the models sounded like on their own and viola, there it is. So now I am careful to leave stuff alone if I’m using cans and keep a couple of presets that are adjusted for use with the cans so I can jam along to backing tracks at night if I wish. I don't really need 24 presets and just keep a couple pedals handy (OD, Big Muff Clone, Fuzz Face mini coming soon to a mustang near me) so i don't have to mess with fuse as much for adding dirt. But the that's another discussion though :D

That’s my input.

good luck with you're new toy... i know you will enjoy it.

Edit: and +1 to what Drubbing states below. Good headphones matter. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 25-1. they're good but i wish i still had the HD 280s... those were grand.

Headphnoe quality is above average. I believe the headphone stage has stereo emulation, which most amps don't have. A half decent pair of phones helps too.

Many thanks again.

Could you throw out some headphone models that will fit the bill?

Thanks again,
G

The above mentioned HD25 are very good, but DJ style, so can be clampy and bassy for some. Audio Technica M50 re worth a look. Shure 440 or 840. My own favourites, Beyer DT250.

In open backed, Grado SR125 are just great all purpose phones. But they won't offer much isolation.

yes if you go for Sennheiser, Check out the HD280s. Half the price and sound better IMO.

Hehe, sure. I decided on the Mustang 3 V2. I popped into a local music shop and they had both the Mustang 2 and 3 in stock. What struck me as interesting is that the 2 is as tall as the 3 nearly as wide too, with the 3 being a bit fatter.

So that settled it for me too. The Mustang 3 is almost as compact as the Mustang 2 but with the bigger speaker and upgraded interface.

Many thanks all, I really appreciate your help.

Now I am just waiting for it to be shipped as I found it cheaper via another online retailer than the local store, which only had one unit in stock and it was on the floor. They didn't want to negotiate price either...

Thanks again,
G
